Omar Minaya is a crafty GM.  I was very upset when Milledge was traded but so far we have gotten the better half of that deal.  Church has been on a tear this year and a big reason the Mets took out the Yankees this weekend.  Schneider's defense on saturday (he kicked damon's foot off the plate) was a great play to stop a yankees rally in a close game, at that point.  I think he is an all around upgrade from Lo Duca.

Way to buy low and sell high Omar.

I agree that when the trade was made, I was disappointed.  When I saw the opportunity to get Barry Zito 2 years ago for Lastings Milledge, and nothing done, I wondered what it would take.  Now Minaya looks like a genious, because Zito is struggling, and Church and Schneider have become team oriented players that fit.  2 starters for the price of 1...Minaya did his homework on this one.

Great posts, and I have to flat-out say that I was 100% wrong about Minaya after the trade for Church and Schneider. I cursed and pouted and called for his head ... Omar, if you are out there reading this, I won't doubt you again.

Milledge might turn out to be a stud, but the Mets would be in serious trouble right now without Church and Schneider.

I remember no one liking the trade at first. I was surprised at how well it has turned out for us. Hopefully it will just get better from here on out.

looking at current stats and value of the players involved with their current team, that trade was an upright steal..  i wonder what trades/moves he will make to open the 2009 season..

I love how depending on the post (and what just happened -ie) mini sweeping the Yankees), you see two totally different opinions of Minaya.  One would almost think we were talking about two different people.

I like the team he has put together, and the majority of trades he makes.  He's not perfect - letting Bradford go after '06 was clearly a bad move - but who is perfect.  All in all, I'd say the majority of his moves are solid.  (For all those about to cite Alou and Castillo... Castillo was gotten to lure in Santana - Alou was signed to only play half the games and be a rock star in those half, which he has!)

I have always been a fan of Minaya.  I noticed the guy had a keen eye for talent when he made the trade for Perez, who was awful at the time of the trade. Later that year Perez in turn pitches well enough to give the Mets a shot at the World Series and, although erratic at times, won 15 games the next year.

Good point on Castillo.
