Bluez,

Apparently it wasn't a training issue but related to  slightly more delicate issues related to reproductive cycles.and genetic differences.

Despite the fact that the character of Lassie is a female, only male dogs have played the role. For the camera, it helps that the male is larger in contrast to the child actors who are Lassie's usual companions. Also, female collies come into season twice a year and lose their abundant coat in the process, making the filming process difficult because scenes are not shot in sequence.

Eight generations descended from Pal have portrayed the beloved collie from 1943 to 2004. All of the canines starring in those movies and TV series were owned and trained by Rudd Weatherwax and later by Rudd's son, Robert Weatherwax.

THE GLENLIVET

In the beginning was THE GLENLIVET.

When George Smith founded The Glenlivet Distillery in 1824, he resolved to create a SINGLE MALT WHISKY of such exceptional quality that all other whiskies would be judged against it.  He succeeded beyond his wildest dreams, although success did not come easily.

Inhospitable terrain, harsh winters and violent hostility from distillers whose illicit livelihood was now threatened, all had to be endured.  But George Smith pursued his vision unswervingly, shrewdly harnessing the mineral rich spring water of Josie's Well and exploiting the benefits of the unique GLENLIVET climate.

His priceless legacy is a supremely elegant whisky of rewardingly subtle complexity.  The monarch and the aristocracy appreciated the rich taste of THE GLENLIVET whisky, which other distillers subsequently tried to match.  But there is still only one SINGLE MALT WHISKY that has the unchallengeable right to call itself THE GLENLIVET.

Just as it was in the beginning.

Cheers, my friends.

Each and every dog that performed as Lassie was in fact a male.

And that's why I said Bluez couldn't handle Lassie.

Sheesh, no one listens to me.

The Reds won!  Five in a row!  Dunn finally figured out he was supposed to hit the dang thing.

Okay, that's over.  They'll lose the next 10 now.
