Ok B Town I will humor you.

Rivera is owed 40 million over the next 3 years for a 38 year old closer.

Who is picking up the contract, because if I am trading MO, I am not eating any money.

Tell me who is going to sign him and tell me what I am going to get in return.

This will 99.4% not happen but I will humor you.  Tell me the team that will pay the money and give me players, then name the players!

Wow, this thread is a joke. Don't you know Mo would most likey retire before playing for any other team? Another thing, why would we get rid of him? He is still a dominant closer.

i couldn't stop laughing this past summer when both Mariano and Jorge received HUGE contracts for being players past their prime and quickly declining in performance. this is only a message that maybe they should think twice before giving top dollar to aging veterans.

Trade Mo for young talent(if possible) and then put Joba as closer. As much as I hate the Yanks I wish they would do it already or make him a starter. Steinbrenner is right for once.

Why would the Yankees trade Mariano Rivera?  He will retire as a Yankee!

Lets be real and fair to one, if not the best closers of all time.  He is on a team that has no chance of making the playoffs this year... the starting rotation is in shambles, and the bats are just old and slow.

NYY won World Championships in 1998, 1999, and 2000

Their average ages were:

Year             Position                 Pitcher

'98                    30.8                     30.2

'99                    30.8                     31.2

'00                      31.3                    32.0

-----------------------------------
------------------

2007                  31.4                   30.1

2008                  30.6                   31.4

Looks to me like the bats are younger than they were when they won 3 straight... Care to give it another try?

Really? Posada had arguably his best overall season of his career. He finished 3rd in MVP in 2004 and 6th last year. He drove in 90 or more runs each of the last 2 seasons.

His batting average last year was 50 points higher than any other year of his career. He was hitting over .300 again this year when he went on the DL for the 1st time (I think) of his career. If that's declining then bring it on.

Rivera---quicly declining?

2005--- 1.38 ERA

2006--- 1.80 ERA

2007--- 3.15 ERA -Terrible April but I believe he was under 2 from May 1 through the end of the seasons

2008--- 0.45 ERA  12 of 12 save ops...

Again, where is this "quickly declining"?

this is only a message that maybe they should think twice before giving top dollar to aging veterans.

Smoltz is 41 and he is getting paid $14 Mill. Is that not top dollar? They signed 42 year old Tom Glavine for $8 Mill and he had a 4.5 ERA last year. We won't even mention the $16 Mill Hampton is being paid for not pitching again this year. He's worse than Pavano...

BTW, Chipper is only 8 months younger than Posada and gets hurt a lot more. Think he is over the hill? think he is worth the "top dollar" is is being paid?

So do I
