Welcome back to the thread. Interleague play begins today, as the Oakland A's (23-19) come to Turner Field to take on the Atlanta Braves (20-20). Atlanta is coming off a 2-5 road trip in Pennsylvania, dropping series to the Pirates and Phillies in the last seven days. Oakland is currently on a 1-5 road trip. The A's collided with the lights out Indians pitching staff, and was swept in their last series. Righty Jair Jurrjens goes to the hill for Atlanta and Oakland will counter southpaw Dana Eveland.
PITCHING MATCHUP
Dana Eveland - OAK - 3-3, 3.23 ERA, 20 BB, 35 K
Jair Jurrjens - ATL - 4-3, 3.10 ERA, 17 BB 41 K
Eveland has pitched well in his previous two starts, despite a 0-1 record in those games. He threw 7 shutout innings against the Orioles and gave up 3 earned runs in 6 innings in a loss to Texas.
Jurrjens has been solid all year for Atlanta. He has recorded 7 quality starts out of his first 8 starts this season. He has never gone less than 5 innings and the 4 earned runs he allowed against Colorado (4/8) are a season high.
ROSTER REPORT
2B Mark Ellis (hamstring) will most likely not be in the starting lineup. He has missed the past 3 games for the A's. P Santiago Casilla (arm) left yesterday's game against Cleveland. He threw one pitch, a homer, before leaving with pain in his forearm.
3B Chipper Jones (groin) sat out yesterday's game against the Phillies. I do not know at this time if he is in the starting lineup.
Post your thoughts, observations, play-by-play, rants and whatever. I'll be posting on the GameCenter glog and this thread. I also have started a Blog which covers some random stuff but will be more centered on baseball in the coming months. Also, ESPN ran an article about Chipper Jones today. I don't have the link, but I'm sure their MLB page will have it.
