I cant stand people who complain about little stuff like this its not a big deal manny just out there having fun. Im a yankee fan and it dont bother me at all. If you wasnt entertain by that or thought it was inappropriate your stupid or have a real problem. Some Yankee fans need to calm down its not a big deal.

I thought it was one of the best sports clips in a long time...remember it is a GAME...and is there anything wrong about showing passion to a fan? Oh yeah....don't forget he made they play.

I think it would be great to allow players to show emotion, it is a game. The problem is, the media attacks certain players/teams (Joba/NYY) for showing any emotion, but praise certain players/teams (Manny/Boston) for doing the exact same thing. For me, I just get sick of the double standard. If everyone just worried about themselves and the media (ESPN) actually reported unbiased articles, there would be no controversy about all this.

My point exactly. The media will write off this latest stunt by Manny as just "Manny being Manny" at the same time vilifying the post strikeout "celebration(?)" by Joba. Interestingly enough there is no outcry when Papelbon pulls a Joba like stunt. Shall we say -
DOUBLE STANDARD

Kling', I'm all for the Joba's, Papelbon's, F-Rod's etc. showing emotions. The media attacked Bugsie because of the situation at the time ( which was something like a 3 run lead in the 8th?) and I still say ok , fine with that.
Difference in leagues where AL pitchers can get away with it and also get away with knowing they'll never come to bat and get drilled by pitches, although Clemens had his day once , lol, remember?
Back to Manny and HITTERS doing their antics. I honestly believe that Manny didn't even know what he was up to at the SPUR OF THE MOMENT, it just comes natural, lol!
Reason why I say this is because players and especially pitchers around the league musn't have that much of a problem with him because he doesn't always get knocked down. Don't forget, players know players more than fans do
I can remember when Brian Daubach broke the line and was a "scasb player " during thje baseball strike and got knocked down for that, (imo) numerous times
Bottom line- better to have a fun time player on a team , than a bunch of players under pressure every day from their owner ( HANK)

Manny should not have pulled that. Toss the kid the ball and run back to the dugout.Uhm...there were only two outs. Glad it wasn't you out there in left.
That said, I think it was the most zany, funny, uplifting thing I've seen in sports...maybe ever but certainly in a long time. (I equivocate only because I still chuckle when I think about the ball bouncing off Canseco's head.)
Does it fly in the face of Old School Baseball? Yeah. Do I want there to be an outbreak of such plays across baseball? No, I'm afraid I'm too much of a traditionalist (read: tighta$$) for that. But as a one-shot deal I loved it.

That's a great point Buckeroo Bonzai, and if you look at the reaction of the other players, they clearly loved it. I mean, Lowell was cracking up and he's as rational a guy as they come. It was sponaneous and an extraordinary play pulled off with a flourish. What's not to love about that.
As for the critics of the play, allow me to quote my esteemed friend bigd quoting Sgt Hulka from (Best Picture Never to Win an Oscar) Stripes: "Lighten up, Francis."
