I was wondering how our QB's performed on the Wonderlic test which is commonly used to evaluate football knowledge. Looks like Brian Brohm was the clear winner of those tested in this years draft with a score of 32. Here is the break-down (NOTE: this only shows the scores that the player recorded on his first test attempt - Brohm scored a 45 on his second attempt which was also the best for a subsequent attempt):
Brian Brohm 32, Matt Ryan 28, Joe Flacco 27, Matt Flynn 26, Chad Henne 22, Sam Keller 21, Josh Johnson 15, Andre Woodson 14

Once you get past scores in the teens I've never seen any report that corelates test results for skill position players with NFL performance.

What about Booty, with his watermelon sized head he should have scored 100 easy.

The Wonderlic test is a type of intelligence test that all new draftees take. It's just another type of tool teams use to evaluate new draftees. A perfect score is 50, so if Brohm got a 45 after taking it twice, that's pretty good. Only one current player scored 50-50, and he is Matt Birk of the Vikings. It's not the end all be all to evaluate talent. Brett Favre got a 22 on his, which is slightly below average for quarterbacks which is 24.

Out of curiosity and for comparison purposes, I found a website that lists the Wonderlic scores of the NFL quarterbacks, which I then used to find Aaron Rodgers score. According to that site, Rodgers had a score of 35 on his first attempt, better than Brian Brohm's. However, as already mentioned, these scores don't always correlate with NFL success. Alex Smith scored a 40 and was an early draft pick that same year but still struggles with the 49ers. On the other hand, while not all quarterbacks with high scores become successes, those who are top in the league also did well on the Wonderlic. Tony Romo scored a 39 (though his mental toughness seems to falter when he is in the playoffs or his girlfriend is watching). Tom Brady scored a 33 but, oddly enough, Peyton Manning had a lower score with a 28. Believe it or not, Eli Manning outdid his brother and Brady, scoring a 37 (Can he cheat off of his brothers knowledge of the test?). Overall, it does not seem particularly important, but it is interesting looking at these scores, especially as considered an indication of intelligence.
For example, the Vikings organization sure seem to make dumb choices for quarterbacks: Tarvaris Jackson (19); John David Booty (14); Daunte Culpepper (18); Randall Cunningham (15); Jeff George (10)
But that is being unfair and I guess it is just my way of picking on the Vikings again. Low scores don't mean lack of talent: Terry Bradshaw, Dan Marino and Steve McNair scored a 15. I doubt in the case of the Vikings quarterbacks that their Wonderlic score necessarily identified them as dumb. More likely, the talent drained from them the moment they were cursed by wearing the jerseys of the Minnesota Vikings. Looking at the Baltimore Ravens struggle to find a good quarterback, maybe it's just the purple.
Anyway, enough babbling. Here is the site that features the list of quarterback scores, if you care: http://www.macmirabile.com/wonderlic.htm

Hmm, anyways, interesting I guess, makes you respect him a bit more as the backup but still..
I mean, it's a good thing and all, but if you take any of the many mock wonderlic tests you realize it's beyond easy. So much so that almost every person who has had any kind of education comes out of it as well above average, and pretty much everyone who doesn't have issues can at least get an average.
I guess in the end it doesn't impress me all that much, but at the same time it's also reassuring he isn't like, say, Vince Young who scored so low you wonder if it's going to be considered a crime later down the road to put somebody so slow into the nfl.
