Simple enough, do you think Chipper Jones can end the season hitting .400 thus being the first player since Ted Williams to have a season of .400 ball?  Personally I doubt he will be hitting .400 by the all star break but I was curious as to what everyone else thinks...

As much as I want Chipper to hit over .400 for the season, I just cant see him doing that for a whole year. I do think however he will be hitting close to it for the year. To many variables go into hitting over .400 to make it easy to accomplish and I think Chipper will be hard pressed to do it. I will be supporting him all year and rooting for mvp and triple crown winner for the year!!!

His career high was .337 last year.  I made a drunk bet with a friend a month ago that Chipper Jones would hit .350.  I think he'll do that, but .400?  I doubt it.  I'd love to see it though!

I think its tough to say a definite yes or a definite no; so i'll ride down the middle and say it's definitely a possibility.

Going down to the wire last season he just missed out on the batting title and after the gold glove going to David Wright and his 19 errors, I think Chipper is on a mission this year to prove he is both a top hitter in the league and a gold glover thirdbasemen.

I think chipper feels like he may have slipped into the shadows these past few injury-plagued years and everyone calked it up to him getting older and now I think he's out with a vengence to prove all the critics wrong that he isn't slowing down that if anything he's just now catching his second wind.

it's still a long shot and the Braves will have to make the playoffs in order to do so, but imagine if he does stay hot all year long and wins the MVP?  How awesome would that be.  Anyone can have two hot back-to-back seasons and win the MVP twice back to back, but to win two with a nine year span between the two.  Yeah, that'd shut up those boo birds that say he isn't a shoe in HOF'er.

Chipper could hit .400
I've seen Chipper hit this year and he has that fire within

Never say never
Dimaggio's record will be broken someday too

The only records not to be broken, involve pitching.
30 plus wins in a season  will NEVER happen again.
the pitchers of old started and completed many games

Today, we are in the age of specialisation with pitching
pitchers are only expected to last six or seven innings (the good ones, anyway)
we have specialists for middle relief and closers.

Will Chipper hit 400 this year?
I hope so
If he doesn't, pencil him in to hit .340 plus
with at least 30 homers
and over 100 rbi's (again)

Go Braves 08!!

I think it will definitely depend on his walks.  .400 means 40 hits every 100 at bats.  So in a regular season of 550 at bats (a little high, but with this offense and their high average its going to turn the order over quite often) thats 220 hits.  If he can reduce that by getting 50 more walks then its only 200 hits and he's been in the 170's and 180's quite often in his career.

One problem might be, will he get enough at bats to qualify for the .400 record.  If his groin is still acting up he could go on the DL, and its still early we could see something else happen after the all star break.  Miss 20 games or so, and he might not have enough plate appearances to qualify for these types of things.  Of course thats pessimistic so.

I'm going to go out and say Yes definitely he has a shot.

Go Braves '08!!!

I've said since the .400 chatter has started that I don't think he or anyone else will be able to do it.
But then every night he seems to go ou and get at least 2 hits and raise his average.
So............I don't know!!  I still feel he will fall short, but if anyone would ever have a shot it would be a hitter as good and disciplined as Chipper Jones.

that depends on how early chipper's season ends, his injury history doesn't make him look good ...

really though, i don't think anyone can hit .400.  baseball has changed considerably since the last time it happened, and i don't think it's possible in today's game.  i'll say he finishes around .340 (if he plays the whole season, or most of it).

I really like Chipper Jones, but i voted NO. I hate to say itm but i really dont think that the majority of todays players hit for average. Power hitters get the Glory. Shoot i would be willing to strike out 100+ times to hit 60+ homers. Chipper IMO should be in a crossroad in his carreer.  He has 397 HR's now. With 3 solid HR seasons he would be in the 500 HR club and secure his play in history as a power hitter. Or he could play good team baseball as many older players do and just try to get a hit each at bat. If he goes with the 2nd approach i think he could do it. However if anyone doe it i think that Ichro will be the guy.
