5 star OL prospect Eric Shrive has given a verbal commitment to Penn State.

This is a far cry from just a few weeks ago when it appeared that he would be giving his verbal to RU shortly after the spring game.

I don't know what happened, but I assume he saw something he didn't like.
Maybe it was that Anthony Davis and Art Forst have the tackle spots for the next few years log jammed.
Maybe it was that he was nervous because of all the redshirt freshman OL we have this year.
Maybe he just saw something he liked more at Penn State.

Who knows.

New #1 target on my board:

Anthona LaLota, OL/DE from The Hun School in Princeton (5 stars)

The top 5 rounds out to:

2. Jelani Jenkins, OLB from Wheaton, Maryland (5 stars)
3. Antwan Lowery, DT from Christopher Columbus High in Miami (4 stars)
4. Lamar Miller, HB from Killian High in Miami (5 stars)
5. Carlo Calabrese, MLB from Verona High in NJ (4 stars)

I thought we might be able to change his mind, but from what my "little birdie" told me, we were a somewhat distant 3rd behind PSU and ND. All the same, I'm beginning to think that 5'9" 180 pound Goru could be coached into a decent lineman by Mr. Flood. This is bad news, but we will be alright.

As for me, Lowery, LaLota, Isaac Holmes, Aaron Hayward, and Carlo Calabrese round out my top 5.

I can't speak for goru, but I look all over the place.

I go through a bunch of Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Miami papers online looking for any updates, I read a bunch of different message boards, and I read a lot of beat writers from the areas where our recruits come from.
If I hear the name of a hot recruit anywhere, I tend to focus on him a little more.

I do use scout and rivals, but not all that much. I don't have a subscription or anything to either, because frankly, I think it's a waste of money. All they do is go through the same papers that I do, so it just seems silly to me.

I do tend to follow scouts more than rivals in terms of commitments and in terms of rankings because they're usually more correct and less biased (notice I said "less" instead of "not"), and because they appear willing to change rankings in either a positive or negative manner depending on different events throughout the year. They're more willing to admit they're wrong on a recruit than rivals is in most cases.

That diligence is exactly why I follow what you write JT.  You are always unbiased and give the most complete updates.  I don't have the time to look through all the papers so I just check with your posts to keep up to date.

Keep em coming.

I hawk scout and rivals. And if I ever left this site to post on another one, I'd probably still come here to steal a bunch of jtjmas' info.

Let us all remember that Shrive gave a verbal and signing day isn't until February 2009. We still have a shot!

Goru, you made a great point about Coach Flood. Won't belong before we become OLU. Great coach
