Nice to see nice words about the Twins. I know expecting them to compete every year is a pipe dream but there is something to say about a team that plays hard all the time and plays with solid fundamentals. They're not the only team that does that but I'm glad the team I support is in that group. Gardenhire will hopefully grab a Manager of the Year award sometime soon, if the team keeps overacheiving.

I admire the Twins' play-hard-all-the-time attitude. But at the same time, their old school baseball mentality holds them back. For example, they're using a guy with a .301 OBP as their leadoff hitter, apparently because he's fast and can steal bases on the rare occasions when he actually manages to get on base. Most other MLB clubs have gotten past that sort of thinking. Until the Twins do, their work ethic and fundamentals can only get them so far.

Good point. One positive is that Pohlad's son is talking about increasing the payroll quite a bit soon. I'm not holding my breath but with the coaching and scouting, some extra bucks spent wisely could plug some of their holes. They appear to be planning for '10 when the new stadium opens and if Gomez progresses, he could be a sweet leadoff hitter. Again, time will tell.

As a Tribe fan myself I must say that the Twins are a VERY underrated team.
I like their lineup due to its combo of scrappy players and young talent. If their big guns can stay healthy they can be a force to come August and September.
If I were a Twins fan I'd be very encouraged with the direction of the franchise.

Very kind words Buckeye and they are appreciated. I love the Tribe. When I bought MLB 2008, they were one of the first teams I played. When they get it together, they will be the force in the Central. Detroit's pitching, which looked so promising a year ago, is a concern. If Minnesota can keep it together, it should be a fun year. How the Twins keep it going with that lineup and pitching staff is crazy.

I agree. Nice words from a tribe fan. I have always followed the Indians even being a Twins fan. One of their farm systems back in the early to mid 80's was here in my hometown when I was a kid. Not sure what class of ball it was, but I stilll have a Greg Swindell card from when he played here. I do know it was the Midwest League. Not sure if it exists anymore. Twins look like they can play with anyone on a given night, but I keep telling myself it's only May. Their start however has helped ease the loss of Santana and Hunter. Looking very promising for the near future right now. Who knows what else we have waiting in the farm system.

The Twins have been a great story this year after the players they lost..love watching them play. White Sox are at best a .500 team..the Tigers are going to struggle as long as they dont get any pitching which means the Tigers are going struggle all year, I don't see them turning anything around. The Royals are improved, but still a year or 2 away. The Indians offense has had trouble, but you have to remember that this was a top 5 al offense over the last few years with the same guys and will eventually get it turned around. In the mean time the Tribe will just keep riding the best starting pitching in the majors and probably end up running away with this division.

Any Tribe fans out there, I can't help but ask, were you expecting your starting pitching to be as dominant as it has been? Or is this a pleasant (from your perspective) surprise?
Personally, I am just hoping for an exciting division (preferrably with my Twins contending). So far it has not been the dominant division everyone was expecting, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the teams stepped it up down the road. I guess all we can do is just wait and see.

It is nice to hear something about the Twins. We don't expect our ballclub to stay in the race over the course of the season but really the AL Central is for the taking. If the Indians hitters wake up and keep in line with their pitching for a week or 2 then they should have a good lead going into the allstar break.
Go twins.

Pipedream??? man the Twins do compete every year maybe not the entire year buy they compete. With this weak division shaping up I'm just hoping my poor poor Royals get out of the cellar. As long as detriot is playing wiffel ball I think we have a chance to stay outta last. As for the Indians kinda a dissapointment really not as much as detriot but still a little underwhelmed so far.. it's going to be fun let's see gets their bats going first
