Ken Rosenthal's thinks the Rockies who are 10 games out of first might trade away Matt Holliday. The reason being because they feel they have little chance of resigning him after the '09 season. So they want to get what they can for him much like the Rangers did with Mark Teixeira. The real interesting part is the Rockies are willing to deal him for high ceiling, low level players.

So Cubs fans, if Holliday is available at the trade deadline would you want Jim Hendry to go after him? If so who do you think he should offer?

Why take a risk at overpaying for a guy we don't need?

NO! were already overpaying a guy in our lineup. We have the best record in baseball. We dont have to make a move as of now. Yes we will make a move before the dealine but this is not gonna be it.

Better yet where do we play him?  Moving the only LH bat to CF to make room for another RH hitter isn't the way to go.  Call me when the Pirates want to trade Nate McLouth.

i agree that we have no reason to trade for Matt Holliday.  he is a great player that any team would love to have .  however, our outfield is a little full right now with Kosuke Fukudome, Alfonso Soriano, jim edmonds, and Reed Johnson

Matt Holiday would be great, but we really don't need him right now.  What we need is a top-middle of the rotation innings eating pitcher.  The earlier we get him the better.  How great would it be to have a rested bullpen for the stretch run.  We could essentially shorten games that way.

You can't overvalue the fact that if we get to the 7th inning with a lead, the game is pretty much over.  Thats been the Yankee success formula when they were dominating in the late 90's.

GO Cubs GO

How great is it to be a CUBS fan right now!

you guys are nuts, especially if you think Nate McLouth would be a better (or safer) pick up than Holliday.  Nate McLouth has a good month and a half under his belt, and nothing more.  He may turn out to be great, but it's a riskier move than a proven star in Holliday.  I wouldn't hesitate if I were the Cubs.  He's not necessary, but he would add a great deal to the lineup.

I would definitely take McLouth over Matty Boy... & here is why;

@ COORS  25 HR   82 RBI

Away from   11 HR   42 RBI

No disrespect to the guy, who is one of the better pure hitters in the game today but I think we can call him part deux of Larry Walker, Vinny Castilla, etc...  He may only be 28 but McLouth A) plays CF

&nbs p;      &n bsp;          B) has avg about 30 steals a year in the minors topping out at 40 with ONLY 4 caught

      &nbs p;      &n bsp;          C) bats LEFT HANDED & hit .292 in over 2000 minor league AB's

      &nbs p;      &n bsp;          D) oh yeah & he hit 13HR  21 DB & stole 22 bags (1 caught) in ONLY 329 ab's last year

That is a little more than a month & a half worth for me to make a decision!!!  Not that we could ever get Nate but hey...

Hold the phone here people!  Are you serious in saying that we shouldn't make an offer to Matt Holliday IF he does actually go on the market?  I agree that we may not have a place for him right now, and we don't want to disrupt the great thing we have going, but turning a blind eye to this guy should be enough to get any GM fired on the spot!  He has emerged as one of the top offensive threats in the game today.  He's superior to Soriano in every way except speed, and he's also a few years younger!

Now this hypothetical situation that presents itself illustrates what I have been saying on this board all along-
