Hey Ravens fans-- Dolphins fan here and I come in peace:
I just wanted to know what the team plans were for Troy Smith? Obviously you have your QB of the future in Joe Flacco, Steve McNair retired, and Kyle Boller has not yet lived up to expectations. I dont know who or if you have another QB on your roster, but I would like to know if maybe you guys are thinking about putting Troy at WR or RB or something of that sort.
All rumors coming out of college was that he was to small to play the position in the NFL, but given his athletic ability I would think the Ravens would find a way to use this guy to their advantage. Your thoughts?
Best of luck to you guys this season.

Its open competition between those three qb's. Troy Smith is strictly playing qb, he actually played quite well last year in the 4 games he played. He is a little short, but height a good qb does not make. If our line can improve this year, as they are very young (oldest player who is fighting for the job= 3rd year), then troy could come in and be very good. Remember, with a running game, special teams, and defense that we will be fielding this year, all we need is a Trent Dilfer at qb; smart game manager, make some throws to keep the opponents defense off balance, etc. kinda like Ben Roethlisberger his rookie year, like 15-20 attempts a game....
the jury is still out on both smith and boller. boller many think failed because of billick having problems developing qb's. the team brought in cam cameron, the qb "guru" who i am sure you hate from his year in miami, but he developed rivers and brees in SD. If anyone has a chance to turn bollers career around, it is him. Now Ravens fans are reluctant to trust boller because he has shown such poor decision making in the past. But part of that is billicks pathetic play calling which we all hated with a passion.
Looks like your Dolphins should be improvedm, not playoffs yet, but maybe a year or 2 away. Good luck; and cant wait for RAVENS SUPER BOWL CHAMPS 2009!! Dont be a hater....

yeah, we love our players from the U!!!!! they have all worked out nicely for us.
as for smith, i agree his future is at qb. he isn't as athletic as a randle-el or kordell. he really isn't a threat to tuck the ball and run for 30 yards. his scrambling abilities are used to get away from trouble and buy time. i do think at some point we will see smith in there at qb though. as ravensray said we Ravens fans don't have a whole lot of faith in boller. but realistically, he is the best qb we have for the new offense. if he struggles though, i don't think the team will hesitate to throw troy out there. hopefully they wont have to fall back on flacco this year, but who knows.
anyway, is there any news from the fins? who is projected to be your guys qb next year? you think it will be beck or is it going to be Josh McCown? either way, Jake Long should be their best friend!!!

Heck yeah Bmore....tell Paolo to keep send those boys from the U! God, I love those boys....they just seem to always be our best players. Anyway, I agree about Boller. He's might be our best option for now. I feel sorry for him because I really think Billick ruined him. Cam is NOT to blame for Miami's team problems last year, Saban is. But truth be told, even so, some guys make good coordinators but lousy coach's. All I know is Miami had the best running game last year until Ronnie Brown went down and I expect no less from McGahee! I will say this, with the Tuna running things now I bet Miami turns things around a lot faster than people think they will.

In short, Troy Smith has a legitimate chance to earn the starting spot this year. If he earns it and plays like a franchise QB, I'm sure he'll keep the spot. These are big ifs.
That Joe Flacco was drafted means that Troy's window of opportunity to prove himself has become shorter, and he needs to show something special now. If Troy isn't the consensus starter by the end of the year, he probably never will be.

bmore, going into camp- Chad Henne and Josh McCown seem to be the favorites to start at the QB position for us. But is solely based on the fact that they are "their guys" It really is John Beck's job to lose in all fairness, but again seeing as how he was apart of the Cam Cameron- Randy Muller Regime, the leash is short on Beck.
Either we me and my fellow Dolphins fans are excited about the coming season.

Both the Ravens and Dolphins hit rock bottom last season and no position is set in stone for teams that finish in last place. This being said, all of the QB have a legitimate shot at being the starting QB. Most times, you go with the guy who has the most experience being Kyle Boller and Josh McCown. But with new coaches, new philsophies, etc.... the new boys have as good as a chance.
Dolphins I think will open with Josh McCown as he is a decent stop gap QB to reduce pressure for John Beck and Chad Henne.
Ravens are going with either Kyle Boller or Troy Smith (whoever wins it out in training camp). Joe Flacco could be ahead of both of them, but they want to ease him into the role. I just think the team will be a tad bit wiser and not rush him as they did Boller.

I think either Boller or Flacco will have our starting spot come Week 1, but htat Troy Smith will have taken the job by Week 8. Boller's only chance is a 30 TD season this year, and that's not exactly likely, but his experience might get him the job starting. Flacco has the arm, all the physical skills necessary to be a starter, but if we throw him out there in the first game, and he starts slipping up, then he will be replaced. Troy Smith doesn't make mistakes, and that might be exactly what we need in our QB.
I hitnk that MCCown will have the starting spot for the Dolphins come their first game, but he will be | |
