it pains me to even say this but the one thing you could usually count on with the Mets was a gutty performance...Not anymore....Stranded base runners, inning after inning....shotty bullpen....and inconsistent starting pitching.....they need a shake-up or they'll be home in October again for sure......

I was talking with some Mets fans in a public board, and I said I think the Mets need David Wright to get ejected from a game. Granted that would suck for you guys to lose him for a day, but think about it.
If David Wright went absolutely ballistic over a call, got ejected, and still shared some words for the umps....think of how loud Shea Stadium would be. Think about how riled up the players would be. Normally I would say the coach should take one for the team, and get the ejection, but Willie randolph doesn't have the respect or support from the fans that are in the stadium. Moises Alou got the boot today, but just walked away. maybe he should've freaked out a little himself.
All I know is Mets fans love David Wright, and he should do something to lift the motivation. And coming from a usually calm guy, it would motivate them even more.

I just don't know if he has it in him to do that. I like the idea, though. The Mets don't get hit too often, but charging the mound would be another thing. Someone has to do something to drag these guys out of their complacency.
It's as if the entire team believes that all they need to do is show up. They aren't the '86 Mets, or even the '88 Mets, so they are going to have to work a lot harder to get it right.
Do they really not understand that the rest of the NL likes nothing more than to beat their butts every night? You can blame Reyes, or the fact that they are from NY, or the fact that lots of people were picking them to be the team to beat, or whatever. But other teams like to come into Shea and take it to them.
When is the last time you felt that the Mets took it to anyone?

Biggest problem is Willie Randolph ... He goes to a guy who has being doing nothing. His name is Aaron Heilman. We are in a close game 1-1 Vargas pitched a great game and then he bringsin aaron heilman . It was 2 outs for god sakes .. Is he that bad to give up four earned runs??? If the guy has been nothing but good why keep going to him?the game is tied he should of let vargas finish it off and then went to Joe Smith in the 7th ... Very bad coaching Aaron Heilman has to go . When he comes he will lose its a pattern.

Totally agree....Why couldnt he use Smith...He actually said that Schoeneweis was ill and he had to use Heilman.....and that Wise and Duaner were unavailable due to heavy workloads in the beginning of the week.....BS he uses Heilman it seems like every night.....
Of course Offense wasnt too productive either....too inconsistent on both sides...but starts with the manager and I dont see Willie as the guy to get these guys going...we saw it last year during the collapse....

everyone acts like Joe Smith is some great proven pitcher. he is just a kid with little experience who has a low era because he hasn't played much and faces one or two batters each time he is in the game.
i heard during one of the games a week or two back that he was going to be sent down to the minors to clear a roster spot for someone coming off the dl, maybe it was pedro, not sure. i guess he was the only one with options left. whatever happened to that?
in baseball i think coaches factor into the game a lot less than any other game. most of the decisions, to sacrifice or hit away, steal or not, are just guesses, one day they make a coach look good and bad the next.
you can't fault willie, but a good amount of your losses have come in games were you just haven't hit.
also everyone says the morale is down on the team and this and that, i think it is more of the fan's morale than the team. i think you guys are playing well for what you have. maybe wright could hit for a little better average, but his rbi's and hr are there. you can't really expect much from delgado, he is too old, church and sneider are playing well above their level and reyes is doing what reyes does, he was, i believe, a .270 hitter last year. yes beltran is under performing but you had to expect it, he is getting old in his play, similar to andrew jones. and your starting pitching has been decent considering who you are throwing out there.
not sure why there is so much negativity. you didn't really expect to run away with the division.

Cusemanchild - Smith, while not proven, had amazing first half of last year before he got tired, sent down to minors, rested and retooled and came back with a strong finish. That is not uncommon with young players. This year, he is off right at the starting gun with another great start. He had 44 innings last year and 17 innings this year which is more than enough time for opposing teams to have scouted him. His ERA in those appearances is 3.21 (2.6 for 2008). His performance has definitely warrented some raised eyebrows and pats on the back.
As for the sent down rumors, the ONLY reason it was being considered was if they sent Smith down to make a roster spot for Wise, they got to keep everybody. If they sent Sosa down, people could get him off waivers (the same with everyone else in the pen who was considered expendable). A testament his respect hold in the organization is that at 23 years old, they chose to outright risk depth by kicking Sosa to the proverbial curb, then sent Smith to the minors.
