we signed lloyd to a 2 year deal. does that mean if kasay lost more of his leg this off season would he be gone? kasay can`t kick the ball deep on kickoffs, but been with the team seem the start.  would we go with 2 kickers one for kick offs and one for field goals. i feel kasay was good but over the hill. maybe it is time for a new kicker. yes, hard to part ways with a good player but is it time? any thought?

Good on 24 of 28 attempts, including 2-for-2 from beyond 50 yards ?

I'd say the old man hasn't faltered much. The Panthers are lucky to have such a consistent kicker, just look at the mess the Cowboys, Redskins, and Jets have been through in the last 10 years.

Hopefully, the offense will pick up drastically and give the geezer some more attempts - extra points, that is.

I would say that we are going with two kickers this season. I think you are correct about Kasay's kickoffs; however, like kaaduge said..the man is a field goal waiting to happen! Kasay is one of the more automatic's in the league. The Panthers are lucky to have such a guy considering most NFL games are decided by 3 points or less!

24 of 28, really??

seems like every kick i saw from him was a miss...

guess thats what happens when the team isnt winning.

kasay will kick field goals,

rhys will kick kickoffs.

I'm happy about that.

Kasay is still MONEY when it comes to field goals, but he sucks at kicking kickoffs.  I think his short kicks definitely have not helped our defense against kick returns (which has been bad).

Don't take this wrong, I still think Kasay is the man.  No shame in letting a young leg take your kickoffs.  And from what I hear, Rhys can boom kickoffs out of the endzone.

if we do keep 2 kickers where would be cut down on, wide outs, o line, d line, would jarrett be gone? maybe running backs and haynes be gone? makes you rethink who would make the final roster.

I think the first place we cut will be WR and LB.

We have tons of both.   (ofcourse, a young guy named Jason Carter appears to be the Taye Biddle of this year's camp.  Wonder if he'll make it.)

I think that we do keep both kickers, John Kasay for field goals and Rhys Lloyd for kickoffs. However, I do disagree with what I consider wasting a productive position.

It's a shame that Jason Baker can't handle kickoffs as well as punting.

I like Kasay and appreciate all he has done for the Panthers and the example that he has set in the community. However, Rhys seems to be the future and will take a spot of someone else that we will probably lose to another team.

It's like having a long snapper that does nothing else...at least Jason Kyle is a pretty decent special teams guy...covers a punt with excellence.

firstchance1, boy, didn't think I'd be saying this, but I have to disagree with you slightly on this.

While I wouldn't have any idea who would be cut to make a spot for Lloyd, I do feel that it's an ASSET to have touchbacks on kickoffs.  In my memory, Kasay (for all his acknowledged value to the team, and his clutch FG's) has increasingly given up valuable field position with short KO's.  If you put a guy on the roster because he can make special teams tackles, seems to me to be logical you'd start with a guy that makes such tackles unnecessary.

(Does that mean I've just started the Rhys Lloys Fan Club??   Uh oh.)
