It seems to me that LeBron James is just great at being good. I know he had less than stellar games 1 and 2 and  solid performance tonight. I just don't see that factor that Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan had. He puts up good numbers but he really don't show that competitive edge as much as he should. The only time it really comes out is when he just took a hard foul or his team just gives up, MJ and Johnson had that edge every night and every time they took the floor. I know King James has it; but it just doesn't come out every night. If he did then his team would become better than they really are.

Every time they get the ball though they think it is the only time they will touch it so they put up quick; low percentage shots that eventually hurt the team. If he had that edge in him like he needs in order to get where he wants to be; then his team would notice that and slow it down a little bit, and actually play like a team. This team has some good young talent, but you never see it unless LeBron is off of the court at that moment; which really bothers me because if they played unselfish like that with him in there, because he is trying to do that with them; they would be unstoppable. But they don't see it that way so they continue to repeat the same things night in and night out.

I thought that making it to the Finals last year would have did that, but we will never know because they traded away all of the guys who were really starting to figure that out. But now with new faces they have to start from square one with the trust issues, and the only way it will get better is if they make it to the finals again this year, but I just can't see that happening. Believe me I am a Cavaliers fan being from Ohio and all, but they need to figure something out or else it will be a repeated process.

If the guys now don't work out in Cleveland then they will just get traded away and new young faces will be brought in and there is that trust issue all over again. I think they really need to look at this in the front office and figure something out, even if the problem is themselves. I am just tired of seeing LeBron carrying this team to only fail because the other 4 guys are not playing even basic fundamental basketball. That is the difference between them and the Pistons or the Spurs because those two teams trust each other and play as a unit. Am I the only one that sees this?

I dont know how people can say that Lebron is the only person on this team thats any good.  People need to start watching the games.  The Cavs role players get a ton of rebounds (best offensive rebounding team in the NBA for a few years now) they hit outside shots, and thye play great defense.  The Cavs made it to at least the second round of the playoffs 3 straight years and were one game away from making it to 2 straight ECF and may make it three this year... so how cna people always rag on the Cavs and say they arent that good?  Man I just dont get it, what do they need to do to be considered a good team?

I think the issue is no one on that team can create their own shot.  Yeah they can hit open jumpers, but its after Lebron has drawn a double team.  You saw it at the end of the half when Lebron sat with his 3rd foul.  They just passed the ball around the perimeter hoping someone would get lucky.

I agree with the other aspects of their game though.  They are very good defensively and at rebounding.   They do start two 7+ footers though.

Yesterday, in the fourth quarter was the first time I can recall Daniel Gibson creating his own shot.

Remember that Lebron is still only 23 and I think most people would say he is a top five player in the game. Can he improve? Yes, and he's young enough to be able to do it. I still think his game against Detroit last year where he scored almost every point at the end of the fourth quarter and into OT was one of the greatest efforts ever.

One thing that makes Lebron great is his ability to do so many things so well. He passes, rebounds, usually shoots well and his defense has greatly improved. So much so that he should be considered one of the top defenders in the game in the upcoming years.

Irish....

25 straight points.

That's beyond great.

The guy has season averages that Jordan only matched once. The only person to out do LBJ was Oscar Robertson...think about that....and then try to say he's just 'good'. He's better then Magic. If you ever watched Magic, you'd know he was not much of a scoring threat.

LeBron James

30.0 PPG (1st), 7.2 APG (10th), 7.9 RPG (27th), 48.4 FG% (41st)

Kobe Bryant

28.3 PPG, 5.4 APG, 6.3 RPG, 45.9 FG%

I think beating the league MVP in every major stat probably qualifies as great, and the fact that he has 7 fewer years of experience than said MVP means you're probably looking at one of the greatest ever.

Just out of curiosity, what would qualify as great for you? Does he need to have 40, 10, and 10 or what?

Yeah try to dig up a tape of last years game 5 versus the Pistons and you may change your mind as he had THE most prolific performance I have ever witnessed in my 27 year life.

I think where the thread creator is coming from however is more of a "consistency" standpoint.  No doubt Lebron is great but he has yet to provide "great consitency" and especially in the playoffs.

hey rldolph, are you saying that these are the best stats that kobe could have put up?

i think we all know that if he had to take on a bigger role on the team, youd see his stats climb in each category. weve already seen him average 35 in a season.
