only 4 players in mlb history have ever hit 40 homeruns and stole 40 bases

only 2 of them are real players. canseco and bonds were juiced.

my question is: will Hanley Ramirez ever join a-rod and Alfonso Soriano in the 40/40 club?

I will go on record to say he will do it.  I think it may take a year or 2, and I think he would only really be able to do it for a year, maybe 2.  From what I have heard, the Marlins would like for him to hit for more power than he does.  At he already hit 29 bombs last year at 24, I think he could find even more power around the magic age of 27.  That said, as his homers rise, I think his steals will fall, almost at the same rate.  As such, his window to do this will be small, maybe in 2010 & 2011?

I concur with bigd.

I think he will do it, possibly as soon as next season. Outside shot of him doing it this year...a lot of ball to play.

40/40 is tough.  I'm gonna say no.  The Marlins don't have the money to keep top-notch players on the team (they have them now because a majority of them are very young) and if he becomes the only legitimate offensive star on the team, he'll find himself pitched very carefully.  Teams will take the approach of, make someone else in the lineup beat us and not Ramirez.  I think he'll be a perennial 40 SB guy, but the 40 HR's will be the challenge.  We'll see and I hope I'm wrong.  I really like the kid and think he's great for the game.
