Who would you pick #1 if you were a rebuilding GM?

Michael Beasley?  The lefty 6'9 PF with the soft jumper and rebounds galore.  There are questions about his work ethic ... Some people think he's a lock to be an NBA All-Star a la Tim Duncan or Karl Malone.  Others think he has a bad work ethic and will fall in love with his jump shot and be Derrick Coleman clone.  Either way ... Those 3 guys averaged about 20 pts and 10 rebounds a game at some extended point in their careers.

Derek Rose?  The ultra quick, ball hawk, team first 6'3 PG that can score.  Some critic say he's Jason Kidd with a jumpshot, or a taller Tony Parker (without the hottie actress wife).  He keeps his team in the game, takes opposing pgs out of their game, can drill the jumper and finish around the hoop.   He defers to the other players in the clutch, but he keeps his team in the game until the end.

Or would you go with some one else?

Kevin Love - The sweet passing, burly rebound machine from UCLA.  Oh by the way ... He has a pretty nice jumper too (Look it up on Youtube).

Brooke Lopez - The athletic big man that can score in the paint for the Stanford Cardinal.  (He's the one with the short hair).

Beasley of power foward with everything.. Rose of power guard with everything... I'm sure guard are important than foward because of leader the floor.. i could like to put Rose number 1..

the team that gets the 1 pick most likely will chose Derrick Rose because the teams need a point gaurd and yes gaurds are more importany than forwards because the gaurds are the leaders on the floor.

The choice between Beasley and Rose is a toss up. They both are going to be great players in this league. The real question is who is #3. If I had the #1 or #2 pick I might trade it for a proven player and a pick a little later in the draft. This draft is the deepest in recent menory. Since 84 ( Jordan, Hakeem, Barkely, Perkins, Stockton,Michael Cage, and Alvin Robertson.) Even playoff teams are going to get a good player.

assuming that maimi has the #1 pick because they lost the most games, i dont see them picking rose over beasley. Rose is a good player, but maimi needs a big physical guy at the power or center position in order to compete with the top teams. therefore, beasley, love make better sense for the heats. Wade is capable of handling the point so what they need is a big guy.

P.S. I wouldn't be surprised if Brook Lopez got picked first because he is a really good player who can get it done on both sides of the ball. But seriously, I would say that michael beasley is going first unless there is a hella good international player like Yao Ming coming into the draft, but i doubt it.

Rose for sure.  Point guard play is just HUGE and Beasley is not a BIG MAN in terms of the NBA game.  He'll be a small 4 man and a big 3 man.  That's not taking ANYTHING away from him- he is terrific and multi-talented.  But if you watched Rose this year, you know the up-side to this young man is unbelievable.  His game translates nicely into the NBA (maybe nicer than Beasley's).  Rose is #1 if I'm coaching in the league.

so much of it depends on who you are, and what you already have...portland, for example doesn't need a big, nor do they need a guard, so they'd probably lean towards beasley...where as seattle needs both a big and a guard, but would proabbly lean towards a guard (like rose)...though this draft, as of right now, is very guard heavy...not certain of the needs of anybody else...

by the way, if portland somehow had the first pick, again, and took beasley, can you imagine the durrant/beasley rivalry???  also, it'd make portland a lock for the playoffs...roy, aldridge, oden, bealsey...just dreaming, sorry

You can't assume Miami will get the 1st pick... the team with the worst record rarely wins the lottery.  Either way, it depends on the needs of the specific team when you have a draft with two clear cut top players.  If Brook Lopez goes number one someone will lose their job.  Hes good but nowhere near the talent level of  Beasley.  If the team picking number one needs a center that badly they'll have to trade down.

The debate between Rose and Beasley is a good one, but the team that wins the lottery will be happy with either one. Who has the third pick is the one who will be under scrutiny. Jordon, Grant Hill, Chauncey Billups, and Carmelo were great picks. This draft is so deep that #3 through #10 could easily be interchangable. Pick wisely i say for you only get a deep draft like this maybe once every ten years or so. And #3 usualy is the one that is eather a potential All Star or a Bust (Al Wood, Benoit Benjamin, or Christian Laetener).
