And I completely understand that. I think the biggest problem with ESPN is when they DO decide to carry a game, they know NOTHING about the team. That can't tell you who is who in the lineup without referring to an outdated ESPN analyst's notes. Most people understand that the Yankees-Red Sox is a popular draw. It makes ESPN money. It's just that ESPN claims to be a National sports network, not a "East Coast Sports Programming Network" as it's been dubbed, so they should be more knowledgeable about teams from around the country. And maybe cover the "hot" teams a little more evenly on baseball tonight and sportscenter.
What happens if the Yankees end up with a sub-.500 record well into July? Do they still get the same coverage they do now? Or does ESPN turn on them and decide to cover other teams? Or do we just get a double-dose of Red Sox?

If the NFL can give nearly equal coverage to all of their teams then the MLB can do the same.
The NFL does not give equal coverage. They give REGIONAL coverage. It's a lot different because it's only 17 days a year and in addition they televise Thursday, Saturday and Monday games nationally. They also have a "flex" schedule so they can adjust to the best game of the week for national coverage. Baseball does the same down the stretch but if you have to televise six months worth of games, the teams with the biggest audiences are always going to get the nod. You can't compare the two because they are completely different as far as scheduling goes.

Ugh, Joe Morgan. He combines the analytical depth of John Madden with the delivery of Cleveland from Family Guy. Why is it so hard to find a decent national broadcaster? Between all three major sports, the only guy I can stand is JVG because he actually has the sand to give his opinion.

Then they show more Yankee games as it becomes a bigger story that the storied Yankees suck...

If you want to see your team that bad, get DirecTV and order the Extra Innings package. You'll see all the games you want.
Why should I put out all that money to buy Direct TV as an addition supplement to my existing cable? All I'm just asking for give me one friggin national night of baseball without ANY Yankees, Red Sox, Met's, or Chicago games. Football does it, with great success. I don't understand the smaller market bias in baseball? It's like a chicken and egg situation - you need the exposure of national coverage to get more national attention!

Why should I put out all that money to buy Direct TV as an addition supplement to my existing cable? 20 years ago you had no choice. If you didn't live near your team you read about it in the paper or watched TWIB on Saturdays. Unfortunately now it's all about ratings and money so you have to shell out the additional dollars. At least you have an option now. If this were 1988 you wouldn't have any options at all.

FOX sucks, I can't stand Tim McCarver and Joe Buck. They are the two worst commentators in the history of commentating. ESPN shows BACK-TO-BACK Twins/Sox games?!? You've got to be kidding me... As a struggling Yankees fan but a big baseball fan, I wouldn't mind seeing some more of the Marlins/Rays/etc. They are extremely exciting to watch. I know these networks are after the ratings/money, but they should also try to appeal to more casual watchers and people who just enjoy the game of baseball. But, I know it'll never change, because people will always keep watching the games that 'are just on'. Oh well...
still can't get over the back-to-back showing of twins/smellysox...GEEZ

Yanks,
You are 100% correct on all accounts! I can't stand McCarver/Buck - I've never seen Buck dispute a homeplate umpire strike call, ever, even when an overhead replay shot shows that the ball trailed two feet outside of homeplate.
AND why in the world would ESPN think that the nation would want to see back to back games of Twins/Ruby Sox? One would certainly be warranted, but two?
Luckily I will get to watch the Rays play the Marlins here locally and will go to all of those games... I just thought that since they are two Florida teams that have historically sat in the basement or on the ground floor, that true baseball fans would want to see the hot talent that is now ripping a new one into the major market teams, maybe just one time. ..

PH as much as I agree on there is too much Yanks/Sox on the Fox/ESPN games. It's only because of the market size. The problem with the 2000 WS was that they had only one big market. I think if you ask the network people they'ed prefer 2 large markets. The Marlins can't even fill the stadium, no one is watching them in Miami how can you expect them to try and sell commercial time around the country?
