Excellent post, MajorPackerFan, and one with which I wholeheartedly agree. I lost count of how many times I defended Aaron Rodgers and his "injury history" but I know that I have several posts floating around these message boards stating much of what you wrote above. Honestly, the more I write these posts, the more irritated I become. If anyone followed the progression of my posts defending Aaron Rodgers, they would notice how I start out relatively rational and become more and more frustrated in my language. The fact is this: yes, Aaron Rodgers injured his foot against the Patriots, but the line was horrible and couldn't protect anyone. Even Favre had to leave the game before that. If someone with very limited NFL experience is put behind a weak line against one of the most aggressive defenses of this decade, what do you expect? I certainly would think that a defense tough enough to knock out the Iron Man Brett Favre could be expected to injure a inexperienced player with no one protecting him!
Now, you can see how irritated I have become (especially if you have seen earlier posts). Aaron Rodgers still played a couple of downs after injuring his foot, so we know he is tough. We also know that he never, never, was injured in college (at least, not enough to knock him out of a game). The Packers savior Brian Brohm? He was injured in all of his seasons and missed two games in both of his first two seasons. Why aren't we seeing "how long before Brohm is injured and Matt Flynn plays?" My guess is that this is because people now want Rodgers to be injured because they think Brohm is the future. I hate to say this, but Brohm is not immune to injury; in fact, he is prone to it. I still do not see what makes Brohm so much better than Aaron Rodgers:
- both Rodgers and Brohm had excellent college careers
- both were ranked as top quarterbacks before falling into a later round (or later within a round than what was expected)
- both have an injury history
However, this is also where the differences lie, because:
- Rodgers never missed a game as a starter when he was in college (Brohm missed 4 and had 2 surgeries)
- Rodgers played behind one of the legends of the game, Brett Favre, for three years
- Rodgers has the confidence and support of his team and the coaching staff
From whom does Rodgers not have the support? Those fans who keep posting these redundant and annoying "when will he be injured" posts. The same people who are already calling for him to be replaced by Brohm. Now, to the OP and others who have posted this question (I know there are a lot of you), please know that I am not trying to offend anyone. I am just releasing some steam. However, I do have one plea to those who keep posing this question: would you please just give him a chance and write some supportive and optimistic posts instead? It would be a breath of fresh air. Thanks.
