I read of nfl.com that Fabin Washington and Samarie Rolle will compete for the spot opposite of C-Mac. Hopefully this will light a fire under them to play at a very high level.

i think Rolle does give it his all when he plays. consider the fact he had epilepsy and you can see that he actually played fantastic. some games he was playing like a pro bowler (although some games, not). the problem comes when you play a team like the Colts or Bengals with two pro bowl caliber WRs who can be really fast. like if rolle has to cover Reggie Wayne, he just cant keep up with him. it will be interesting to see what happens, especially if the Ravens can transform fabian into the first round pick that he was.

you have to think rolle will be the starter going into the season, and he should be. but we now have added security, if rolle goes down, or plays poorly he will be replaced. that is something we didn't have last year, and it showed.
in any case, having fabian will help us against teams like the Browns who have stallworth. there wasn't anyone on this team before the draft that could have kept up with him. now we have someone who is at least as fast as a guy like stallworth.

Yeah even if he doesnt "start" being the nickel CB is almost like starting becasue more and more teams are playing 3 or 4 WRs (Steelers, Browns, Bengels, Colts, Pats, just to name a few)
My question is who of the current CBs will get cut? And after cuts what does the deapth chart look like. I say it will look like this:
Chris McAlister, Sammri Rolle, Fabian Washington, Corry Ivy, Frank Walker, and David Pittman, with Derick Martin and Ronnie Prude getting cut or placed on the practice squad.

I tend to think Prude is safe from being the last guy on the totem pole looking for a new team. I think this battle goes down to Ivy and Walker. These two are making a bit more money than the URFA group of Derrick Martin, Pittman and Prude. They are only keeping 5 CB and 4 S, maybe 6, but I assume that both newly drafted safties cover a number of special teams spots as well as both are quick and can give a hit.
Starting is Chris McAlister and Samari Rolle
Nickle - Fabian Washington
Dime - Frank Walker, Ronnie Prude, David Pittman, or even Zibby or Naky depending on the team and packages.
On the block for the two or three other spots:
Frank Walker, Corey Ivy, Ronnie Prude, David Pittman, Derrick Martin and only one between Ivy and Walker.

Ivy, Prude, Pittman, or Martin....take your pick. Which is the lesser evil? Who might turn out ok with more coaching? They all got torched way to much to even begin to narrow it down. The coach's are going to watch this bunch real close through preseason. If Rolle has the epilepsy under control I bet he holds that starting spot at least one more year, if not, then Washington will get it by default just because he's so freakin' fast! How is Tommy Z's cover skills? I know he hits like a hammer but if he can learn to cover too then he could be the X-factor that pushes another corner out the door. The Ravens love the nasty ones and he's 'piss and vinagar'....lol.

How are we picking the DBs before training camp even starts? The bottom line is that this roster will change compared to the last 9 years. We will have less TEs (Billick loved the position), more safeties.
We need to see where we are headed after the first two weeks of camp. Only than can you start speculating on the make-up of the roster. We may only keep 5 corners and 4 safeties.

If our CBs can just stay healty it will be great. CMac is one of the best, and we will have 2 other very good corners now. Now we shouldn't be so affraid when we play Bengals, Colts, Browns when they spread the defense with 4 or 5 WRs.

i think they will hold onto ivy as a backup safety and special teamer...i dont htink he is starting caliber, but he is a solid backup at both corner and safety....
i think behind reed and landry will be a battle between ivy, zibikowski, nakamura, and Jim Leonhard the safety we signed away from the Bills, for 2-3 spots... they might keep 5 safetys cuz they will all play on special teams, and ivy can play corner too....
