How much money did USA make off OJ Mayo in the one year he played for the Trojans? How much money do conferences make for the television rights to their conference tournament games that gets funneled down to the schools? How much money does CBS pay for the television rights to March Madness? How long are the schools going to exploit, market and profit from these kids, many who have nothing, under the guise of "giving them a free education?" Mayo, Oden, Conley, Beasley, etc...they went to school for one year to play basketball because that is what the rules say they have to do. The system is a joke and these kids should get all they can get. I'm no Mayo fan, in fact I harte USC and the PAC 10, but this system of slave labor the schools get rich off of is so one-way it makes me sick. Do you think USC had any interest in OJ Mayo as a "student athlete?" Or was it just the athlete part they wanted? Rhetorical question.

Yeah but until every athlete is getting paid, none should.  It's not fair to the others who play by the rules and the schools who (in most cases) play by the rules.  I don't disagree that something needs to be done with NCAA.  If congress wants to get nosey and pry into the operations of the NFL and MLB, then I think they should definitely be in the business of the NCAA.  I would be interested in seeing how much the chairman of the boards make.

USC's tactics here were garbage.  However, I'm tired of the OJ Mayo's of the world, as well.  Just go to the NBA draft next time, PLEASE.  Don't go to college if your looking for handouts.  And why is it that an "outside source" always uncovers this type of scandal.  When will we get a player with enough fortitude and moral value to expose it themselves.

Shame on you OJ.  You never should have played college ball.  Good Riddance that your leaving!

And shame on you, USC.  We all know that the Trojans aren't much of a basketball program, but this type of desperation to land a good player is an embarassment to the university.

WOW!  you said it all! Why should we follow the rules? By the way, these guys can declare for the NBA after their senior year of high school last I heard. Can you say Kevin Garnett?

The kids can't go pro right out of high school anymore.

If they could I am sure that Oden, Mayo, etc. would have.

It is the system's fault not the kids.

I say more power to the kids for cashing in while they can.

I  completely agree.  Everyone gets paid EXCEPT the student athlete.  To bad he had a snitch friend who rat'd him out.  I would assume this is pretty common for those players coming out of high school who are already NBA prospects.

Looks to me like that agent is on top of his game.  He just gave the kid a little of his NBA money early.

No, you must go to college for a year, after this year it will be a mandatory 2 years in college.  Expect to see more of this in the future, I don't blame OJ Mayo either. And please don't give me the college education excuse, he never had the intentions of graduating.

Agreed. Get what you can. OJ will be punished enough through the media. He'll have to field questions about this sh*t for years probably. Meanwhile, the BDA and their "runner" can simply respond with "no comment".

I watched the news story on ESPN, and when OJ was confronted, you could see it in his eyes. He was scared and ashamed all at the same time.

I don't think he has much to be ashamed of. It's not like he hurt anyone by doing this. In reality, it probably helped him and his family out  a great deal. I don't know much about his home life, other than his family was not wealthy.

You can have your opinions on thinking it's ok for them to cash in, but it's still wrong.  Do I think they should get paid, hell yeah.  But unless you make it fair for all players to get paid, it's wrong.  No matter how you try to justify it, it's cheating.  The schools who do it are cheating, and in a sense they're no better than all the Steriod and HGH users.  Cheating is cheating.

What about the coaches that try to instill honesty and morals into their players?  It's not fair to them because they're not going to be able to offer what the paying schools offer.
