I didn't realize this until today, but out of the 30 MLB teams, the Braves have the fewest strikeouts. That is awesome. For years now, I have remembered the Braves striking out more than the average team. If you look at the NL, the next team isn't even close to us. We only have 181 Ks and teh next is the Dodgers with 207. Ryan Howard of the Phillies has almost a third of the Braves total.
Plus not to mention in the NL, the braves have the number 1 batting average. The Phillies and Mets are 11, and 12.
3rd in hits behind the Cubs and Cardinals, but the Cards have played 3 more games, and the Cubbies 1 more game. We would need 10 to catch them both.
AND THE BEST ONE OF ALL:
IN the whole NL, (i didn't check the AL) the braves have the best stolen base percentage rate. While it may suck that we only have 15 SB, at least we've only been caught 3 times.
Let's hear it for the bravos leading in SB% and fewest strikeouts.
Larry Jones, GREAT post. Those are some very incouraging figures. Hopefully will start pulling off some of those one run games. We can hit the cover off the ball, but without starting pitching and solid relief pitchers.
The offense is doing real well, at least some days. We still seem to get everything in bunches, then go flat. It would be great if we could get rid of the voo doo curse that the pitching staff has on it. I am waiting for the hitting to become more consistent(Tex) and the pitching injury bug to be given antibiotics in large doses. Hopefully things will settle down before long.
all that is good and well, but its virtually useless if we cant win on the road or one-run games, which so far weve proved to be absolutely pathetic at. Also, at this point at least the Mets and philles arent who we should be worrying about. I was looking at the stats and statistically the Braves are head and shoulders above the Marlins, better average and better era, not to mention the marlins play the worst defense in baseball, and yet somehow the marlins have the best record in baseball. but then when you look at what the braves greatest weaknesses are, you see that those same things are the marlins greatest strengths
1 run games: braves 1-10/ marlins 7-3
extra inning games: braves 0-3/ marlins 3-0
road- braves 4-14/ marlins 11-5
bottom line is that if the braves want to do anything this year but run in place right around .500 yet again, they need to take a page out of the marlins book or it is not gonna happen no matter how good their team stats look.
WOW!!! The team so far have good stats. I didn't know about this. I can't believe the Braves lead the leage in SB %. When I look at the roster I don't see that the team has good speed. But when the team try to steal a base, most likely to succeed. I guess the team picks their time to steal is a good decision. That's lead to the manger calling the play. Bobby Cox is the best manger so far even though has one only 1 world series ring.
Braves also lead NL in team batting average, team ERA & batting avg. against. How we can be hovering around .500 when our offence is hitting .284 and opponents are hitting .230. It would seem leading the league in BA & ERA would assure you a winning record. I guess being 1-10 in 1 run games is the bad stat that wipes out all the good ones.
Yeah, I believe if we can get rid of the road woes and finally lose the injury bug we'll be a heck of a team to reckon with. Right now nobody wants to play at Turner Field but they love getting us in their own ballparks. I'm sure Smoltzy will be awesome again at closer, now if only Hampton can finally do what he's capable of I see smooth sailing. The batting roster is pretty solid up and down, with Chipper tearing it up and good defense look out NL East and then some! Oh yeah, Bobby hasn't missed a beat either. Not a better MGR out there... Go Braves!!
