The State of Florida--America's Schlong--continues to promote TWO seasons of football, a significant reason why Florida schools pull great recruits year after year.  It is as if they are two years ahead of kids from other states when they arrive at college.  It also sends a very clear message that Football is king in the state, and academics matter little.   Just keep playing ball, son, we will take care of any problems that you have.  Then you get kids like the one in the article above, the jokers from FSU who are suspended forfthe beginning of next year, the thugs from Miami who wore fatigues to games, etc. who believe there is a second set of rules written only for them.  Change the priorities, and maybe you can change the attitudes.  These kids are not pro athletes in high school, stop making them perform as if they are.  Maybe if there were two seasons of academic tutoring instead....

So your saying that people who are not as talented at football should be held to a lower standard for their actions. Doing something that is obviously wrong and obviously illegal is OK as long as your not a starter??? Kudos though for kicking him off the team.

Yes...Tim Tebow greatness!  Pretty pathetic that you cant even recognize the talent of last years Heisman trophy winner.  Sounds like another disgruntled anti-gator.

Now as for the main article...I am too pleased that Hornsby was released from the program.  He is one of many disturbed/troubled youth involved in many of the top programs around the nation.  He doesn't represent any of our young Gators or the focus of the team.  Florida, like ALL OTHER major Div 1 football competitors try to attract the very best talent from around the nation.  Unfortunately, baggage is sometimes attached to these talented individuals and it becomes exposed during their time at the school.

Yes I am a Florida fan and i'm not going to pretend that we are better than anyone else out there with troubled players.  We have had our fair share over the years...coaches included.  But this stuff happens all over the place.  The fact that it happened to one of the elite programs of this time and the National Champion from 2 seasons ago magnify this issue.  Many jokes will be made of it, and i'm sure some t-shirts will show up at our games in Knoxville and Tallahassee laughing about the credit card fiasco.  But this will pass...just like any other event at any other school.

Go Gators

What TWO seasons of football?  Games are only played during the same time of year  (fall) as every other state plays them.

Poor analysis.  While I agree that most big-time programs have an offseason issue or two, it is not all programs.  Moreover, the gators have more than their "fair"share, suggesting institutional lack of control.

As a Miami fan I feel pretty good that what he uses to point out Miami's "thuggery" is that the team wore army fatigues when they got off a plane and a meet-and-greet way before the game. Whoopity-do-dah! Don't confuse brash with thuggish.

And oh by the way, that was 23 YEARS AGO! Most of the players on our roster weren't even born yet.
