in Buster Onleys Blog and the Los Angeles Times suggests that The Phenom Clayton Kershaw could make his major league debut for the Dodgers on May 17 vs. OH yes, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Orange County, and California.

How freakin awesome would it be to have another Blake Dewitt occurence happen, where Kershaw does well enough to the point they dont want to send him back down. Kershaw remians the 5th starter, switching him back and forth from the rotation to the pen, having him start twice, and then letting Park or Loaiza start after every 2 starts. Im starting to come around on Park, but I think hes a Hung Chi Kuo guy, hes good out of the pen in long relief, but I dont want to see him start. I really really hope that Kershaw will be making his ML Debut May 17 agaisnt the Angels.

Wow, that would be great to see him do good in the Majors.

I Just hope if it happens they limit his innings.

Olney actually links off the LAT which is here: http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-dodrep8-2008may08,0,6815588.story

But since you asked....

" Wrote here last week that the Dodgers had begun formulating a plan for Clay Kershaw's promotion to the big leagues, and now there is word that this could happen on May 17."

So, if he comes up by say June 1, and gets a solid 4-5 months worth of pitching in the majors, barring he doesn't get blown up or whatever have you, that would mean it's a pretty safe bet to say he's gonna make the rotation next year, like I said, barring a complete melt down.

Anyone catch Loaiza's comments in that article?  I found it quite amusing.

"I feel fine," he said. "I want to pitch. I want to be out there and throwing."

 * But Loaiza, who was sidelined for most of last season because of knee and neck problems, said he understood why the Dodgers were cautious.

"They want me to get better," he said. "They don't want me to get hurt because they really need me. And I really do want to be here and not be like last year."

Loaiza is 0-1 with an 8.74 ERA in three starts this season. He gave up five runs and lasted only 2 1/3 innings in his start Saturday in Colorado. *

Does he have some delusion of importance.  It's interesting that a pitcher with an 8.74 ERA and had a horrible last outing really thinks that he is needed that bad.  I guess he's not as horrible as the Tomko/Hendrickson fiasco last year, but it's not too much better.

16,07, dpwtv, Dodgertown, duter and all you guys, I know for most of you, I'm on the wrong side of this but here we go anyway.  The fact is our pitching sucks.  The strenght of this team at this point isn't from the mound.  The fact that Clayton Kershaw and James McDonald are not on the big club is a huge mistake.  I know they want to bring them on slowly but we will not win the division, pennant or World Series with the rotation we are throwing out there.  Let us look at the rotation.  Brad Penny is the so called ace but a 6 inning guy at most.  Lately maybe less than 6.  Derek Lowe is a 6 inning guy and maybe 7 if his sinker gets guys swinging early in counts.  Chad Billingsley is as far as I'm concerned is the new ace, but he too is a 6 or 7 inning guy because of his strikeouts and long counts.  Hiroki Kuroda, I don't know what to think of him but he is a disappointment so far this season.  Hong-Chic Kuo is better out of the pen then a starter, unless we want to see him on the DL.  Chan Ho Park and Esteban Loaiza are at best 5 inning guys and maybe less then that.  Neither of them will ever be the answer.  Jason Schmidt, well we really don't have to say anything about him except thanks Ned.  My point is that bringing Kershaw and McDonald up for a 6 inning stint is better then we have now.  Hey if you put Clayton on a 75 pitch count and he gets there in 3 1/3 innings, then its no different then Penny the other night.  Bring them up, make a plan for them and let them go.  If they get hit, OK, most people learn faster by failing anyway and if their ego's go bye-bye, then were not ever going to be good anyway.  Just a thought, go Dodgers beat the Astros

Lots of good points blue, I think you are certainly echoing what a lot of scouts have to be saying about now. Brad Penny looks done, this is about as good as it gets for Derek Lowe, Kuroda has dropped off the table since he's been state side. We don't even have a #5 starter until the 17th, and if we did, I would cringe at the thought of a permanent Chan Ho Park rotation spot.

That is one memory I don't need relived.

About Lowe, is he even the 2nd best ground-baller in our division?

Webb, you already know.

Aaron Cook looks great.

If it wasn't for the contract possibilities I don't think we would see anything from him to tell you the truth, but I won't rule out a strong finish.

With all that said, it's still May, and all of this could be washed away or amplified. I'm not sold on anything until at least August. Except for well, Kershaw coming up that is...
