A) I live in New York.
B) This is about separating the "actual" Yankee fans (#1) from the generalizations people have of you.
C) I'm fully aware that I suck. Thanks for reminding me.

not bad Ben, but one amendment to your description of a true Yankee fan in the body of the article...we've liked the Yankees since they were bad (80's), were relieved and enjoyed the Championship teams of the late 90s early 00s and fully expect to be back on top in short order.
By the way, with the Red Sox recent success, most if not all of your descriptions could be easily applied to members of "The Nation"

not bad Ben, but I would ammend your description of the actual Yankee fan in the body of your article. Those of us who are true Yankee fans have been fans since they were bad (suffered through the 80s), enjoyed the heck out of the late 90s early 00s and fully expect to be back on top in short order.
By the way, with the Red Sox recent success, most of your descriptions (if not all) could just as easily be applied to members of "The Nation". I see more Red Sox garb in places I've never seen it before and have recently been verbally assaulted by "Nation" members in the presence of my 5 yr old as far away as TX. They come dressed in all colors!

100% agree. I have more Yankee fan friends who've had a hard time in Fenway than Red Sox fan friends who've had it rough in the Bronx.
And yes, most of these "types" of fans fit with the Sox as well, but some are very NY-centric.

Sully you are absolutely right. This could apply to any team at least any major market team. I am a Sox fan (lifelong). The fan bases of Yanks and Sox are basically the same. Most know the game well. But because of the media exposure they both get they also get lots of casual fans who want to be a part of the thing but know nothing about the game at all. Nothing wrong with rooting for your team hard, but don't be ridiculous about it.
To me your last line in your post is the unacceptable part of the "rivalry" The Yankees Suck chants at Sox games or randomly in the middle of a Patriots parade are ridiculous. They are classless. These chants happen in front of 5yr olds all the time. Nice way to show our kids sportsmanship. Lets root for our teams and keep it at least reasonably civilized.

Ben I have been to both parks and seen both sox fans in Ny and yanks fans in Boston get harassed. The good natured ribbing is funny. A little harmless taunting, but the screaming, swearing, and badgering in both parks that I have seen(in front of kids), to me seems ridiculous. IT IS A SPORT!!!!!!! NOT LIFE OR DEATH, A SPORT!!

I've had beer thrown on me at Yankee Stadium on numerous occasions, and been called all sorts of fun things, but in my many trips to Yankee stadium, nobody has physically threatened me for simply attending a game there. Which is nice.

Truer words have never been writtne before when describing Yankee Fans. I have been a Yankee Fan since I was 4 years old and yes I even have the Yankees emblem tatooed above my heart. Not because I had to be col but because I can remember when they sucked and I still found myself rooting for them while all of my friends rooted for the METS. Oh did I mention I am originally from Flushing Corona Queens. Yup and raised on Strong Island but always and forever a TRUE Yankees fan. I really do not mind Red Sox fans and actually enjoy talking baseball with them. Baseball is just that Baseball. Everyteam has that one team that they just seem to despise. When you have fans like the Bullies, the game seems to lose some of its' luster and attraction. In closing I agree with everybody in here: You could apply the same to those people from the Nation and every other sports team out there.

Generalizations are convenient and make it is easy to conclude whatever you want.. It is quite often the few that tarnish the majority.
Then again, going to the opposing ballpark with a chip on your shoulder, your mind made up, and hate in your heart will almost always be a self-fulfilling exercise. Of course you will have a bad time, of course being an a-hole will create a negative reaction from at least some of the hometown faithful.
Personally, when I see a "true" Boston fan -- one that isn't spewing hate (we obviously have our version too) -- I celebrate the fact that we both love baseball and are passionate about the same great game. I celebrate the fact that we have so much more in common than the one thing on which we must agree to disagree.
Some of the best days I have spent at the ball park have been at Yankee away games with fans of the other team where our common love of baseball combined with our common disdain for an F-bombing, obnoxious, drunk, A-hole (a supposed "fan" of either team) have brought us together.

So would every other Yankees fan since 1902!!!
