We built the Padres a new Ball park for a reason... So that they would have a new income to bring in big, or at least bigger named, players. And what have we done, NOTHING...
The only players on our team that would make any other starting line-up in the league are Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Greg Maddux, Randy Wolf, Cla Meridith, Heath Bell, Adrian Gonzo, and MAYBE Khalil Greene and Kevin Kouz. THAT IS IT... Please show a valid arguement that proves this wrong.
I sick of all the excuses by the SD media about us just being unlucky and its "a long season" we will bounce back. The media needs to recognize that this lack of success all comes back to the management. Over the years since our trip to the big show, we have been abandoning all signs of proven talent for the cheeper young talent. 2 Years after that trip to the World Series we only had 3 players left from that amazing team.
This trend has carried all the way to today, where our pitching has struck a rough spot and our hitting is... well... LAST IN EVERY CATEGORY IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE... Our managing core needs to get a grip and spend some ******* money... Cheap pieces of $hit

I agree with you entirely. Except for the bit that Cla Merideth would be in the starting line up for any other team in the Majors. I think he sucks. He's never shown any glimpse that he can actually make a hold with whatever he's given and in my book blew way too many games for us last season which cost us going to the playoffs.

The Padres haven't changed their fiscal philosiphy for 40 years.
Did you really believe them when they made those hollow promises? All you have to do is look at Tony Gwynn taking the San Diego Discount all those years to have a glimpse of the future...
San Diego stadium was brand new when the 69 Padres came into existence...Nothing has changed except the address where they play.
Silly me, I keep rooting anyway...Go Padres

I hate to disagree with you because I am as down on this team as I ever have been, but the collective talent on this team is way better than some of the teams the Padres have had in the past. Do you remember when Tim Flannery was fired because of his comments about the quality of players the Padres had. After 1998 when the team sold off all their good players and were fielding pretty much a AAA team in Padres uniforms. We were spoiled for a few years after they moved to Petco because they actually made some good moves and improved the roster.
We have been really lucky to keep a solid bullpen, it seems like relievers are the hardest people to judge year to year. How many relievers look unhittable for a year or 2 and then disappear because all of a sudden they can't get people out. Cla Meridith's streak of scoreless innings seems like a lifetime ago, Heath Bell is still strong but will he go the way of Scott Linebrink. I remember when Linebrink was a shoe in to replace Trevor as the closer.
Things look bad now because of our record, but being a longtime Padres fan I hate to say it but I got used to it for a while. I have hope that the front office can turn things around with the farm system, but until then we may be looking at another stretch like 2000-2003.

Not a big fan of the (once) mighty Dodgers so I had to check
Last div championship...2003
Prior to that, all the way back to 1995 to find a Div. champ. (that would probably be before you were born huh?)
Last W.S. appearance the 80's
In the meantime my oh-so-crummy Padres have won the div in 96, 98 05 & 06. Making a WS appearance in 98
So enjoy your teams temporary and very limited success, but don't make those W.S. travel arrangements anytime soon...
and yes, Go Padres

Ya know in all of those dates you named for both the Dodgers & Padres the stats that I noticed you failed to mention were the only one's that count--"The Hardware"! Oops I realize that San Diego has never capturedone of these as they are rare in this part of the state, so I'll explain since seeing you obviously have the common disease that most of you winning deprived San Diegan's have- Denial! You see the world championship is the only thing that matters & every player that comes here only has to put in a little time here in the San Diego discount to realize that its only outside of San Diego that real teams win real Championships, you see mr. Nuts & bolts for brains the Dodgers have 6 different WORLD championships, 5 of them in LA- 1959, 1963, 1965, 1981, & 1988..And yes 88' may of been a while ago now but I still got to witness it, while your most memorable moment happened in 98 watching a admitted roid user, packing snicker bars, carring you to a October sweep! Pretty pathetic pal! Jeolusy gets you nowhere you frustrated inferior wannabe rival! like I said earlier, the 12-24 tailspin you all are in just aint gonna cut it! HAHAHA! Dummy.

Actually, I did in fact acknowlege the once mighty Dodgers distant past. No, I didn't mention specifically the championships. Did you think I forgot? Growing up in So. Cal I actually rooted for the Dodgers till 69. And I enjoyed watching all those championship years.
So if you want to brag about being No. 2, go on and brag. If you want to bash away at my Padres, take your best shot. They are in fact stinking up the place this season.
As far as the name calling and personal attacks...Try to remember the name of this site is CBS Sportsline. As in sportsmanship.
Getting into verbal jousting in cyberspace is like shadow boxing in the dark. You can't see anyone and you never see what's coming.
Good luck Dodgers fan...

Boltnut,
Classy responce, especially for a pad fan...have to let you know that the only reason I got on here was to ruffle some padre 'fan' feathers in the 1st place... I called you dummy because I thought you were going to fall for it, but obviously you have more class than to respond back in the expected manner & more wisdom than to argue a loosing battle. You say you once did root for the Dodgers & by your responce its obvious! Sorry for being so direct, you see i live here in Poway, SD & moved here 10 yrs. ago from LA. While in LA i never knew of a padre rivalry, only the gints & especially never knew the ammount of hostillity w the biased SD media and cocky ignorance of the common padre fan. I find it annoying to see the ammount of San Diego arrogance that is shown towards the Blue by the padre organization as a whole w the classless BEATLA chant @ the stadium & the natural reaction from the crowd because of it!! Now while I am not saying that the city of LA or many of its fans are all classy, as indeed I know many times the opposite is true, still you never see the Dodger organization prompting & even encouraging fans to be obnoxiously rude!! It doesnt help anyone, & if anything only breeds more hate which is why I purposely intended to offend! Best of luck towards both teams in 08', maybe we both can take out the snakes! LOL!
