Did your value drop in May ?

Chip -- CBS is just ahead of the times. Haven't you noticed everything, especially high-tech, is showing increasing Oriental influence?

The "chat" threads are pretty obvious from the title.  You can just skip them. 

The football board has less chat threads.  It also has a lot more idiots and the tone of the sport threads is a lot more aggressive.   I have not posted there about football because pretty much anything degenarates into a fight.  On this board that doesn't happen to often.  That is because we chat with each other. 

In either case, you are encouraged to participate instead of showing your disdain.  If you don't like the tone of this board, there are other basketball message boards out there.

I thought you'd catch the cynicism CBS subjects us all to when they create numbers (reputation, value, rating, etc) to make each feel good about ourself. Capping the numbers at 100 encourages everyone to regard them as somehow related some kind of percentage of something, without caring what kind or thing the percentage refers to. My number is big, so I like it.

Do you really think anyone who spent ten minutes a day on these boards without provoking warnings could avoid building a "reputation" of at least 80 or 90 in a few months? So how is that related to percentages?

Could your antipathy for the VALUE in profiles simply be that yours isn't close enough to 100?

KU62, I know you wouldn't believe this, but I could care less about my value.  I just care that the system is meaningful and that this software works well - because I am a programmer and I like this site.

If you want to spin this as somehow it relates to how I feel about myself - that is your problem.   I could care less. 

I pointed out that I was making a conversation but apparently you are unable to put my sentence into the context it was meant to be - and was obvious to everyone else. 

Happens to everyone. Makes me appreciate the Preview button. Cuts my need for apologies by a good 90%. By that, I mean when I Preview before I Post, I catch 9 out of 10 mistakes before anyone else sees them, not that I make fewer mistakes than 90% of all CBS posters. It doesn't make me smarter or dumber, just more considerate of those who are irritated or inconvenienced when they have to mentally correct mistakes in the posts they are reading.

As could I, does that mean we both care too much?

Most of us only notice that they aren't right. As you can see from this thread, the value rating of most regulars - the ones that are usually regarded the highest in the community - tends to be low.

I thought it sounded as if being highly regarded was some kind of goal and was being frustrated by low numbers. Apparently, I thought wrongly. Thanks for the correction.

Mine went up from 93 to 95 to 97 in the past three weeks.  I have no idea why, as I have been on-line quite a bit less, now that football and college BB are over.  Too many things to do outside, you know, getting the yardwork done and all.

I have no explanations whatsoever.
