War-Eagle - In the initial thread post, you tell us to rank the SEC coaches, then limit it to "success". This is a varied target, and depends on what qualifies for success... wins? NC's? recruiting power? I don't think I can judiciously rank them, and the factors for all coaches should be the same as in the SEC. I don't know what those factors are.
xerxes10 you are right. He did not take into account that 2 of the coaches have yet to coach a game at their respective schools(Petrino-Nutt) and all of the Florida homers are voting for Spurrier from his decade old Glory days at UF.
I even voted Saban #1, but in retrospect my vote should be removed because he has not done anything in Tuscaloosa just yet.
While you talk about how Miles walked into a palace that Saban had built, would you not be able to call yourself a hypocrite by saying that Meyer did not walk into a palace of talent that Zook had brought in?
Trixx............
Never once did I boost up Meyer. At the same time Zook averaged over 4+ losses per season. Trust me............there wasn't a palace. It was a palace until Zook started tearing it down.
- The W-L record might not have been there, but the talent sure was. Zook might not have been able to coach them up, but he left the cupboard anything but bare talent wise for Meyer to work with
After losing to South Carolina and then to UT by 3 TDS (3TDS!!!!!!), I'm sure you had them among the top 5 teams in the nation
UGA always screws it up in the beginning of the year and ends up too far down to bring it back, last year is a perfect example of that
Trix,
If you checked out ALL the preseason predictors last year UGA was picked 3d at best and 4th by many. As you guys should know, starting 3 freshmen on your OL is not exactly the comfort level you want to have going into the season. And yes we lost to Tennessee by 3TDs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But where do we get this UGA always screws it up in the beginning of the year stuff? 2002, UGA unbeaten until the Florida game. Win the rest and finish #3 behind OSU and Miami. Florida is not at the beginning of the season.
2005, Georgia is surprisingly undefeated going into the Florida game. D.J. Shockley is out for that game and we lose 14-10. The next week we lose that wild one to you guys in Athens 31-30. Both of those games were at the end of the year.
Your statement is simply inaccurate.
BigDawgs,
Those 2 years went against the trend yes, but what about the other 8 years in the last 10? 8 out of 10 is still pretty accurate and I stand by what I said
I really how UGA fans really think they deserved a spot in the BCS Title game. They were blown out by Tennessee, didn't win their division. let alone the conference. Why would BCS voters pick a team to play for the title game over the actual conference champion? LSU loss two games as well but it took 6 OTs to do that. Hey, I don't like LSU as much as the next guy. but I can tel who deserved a shot at the title more. Furthermore, UGA was beaten by SOUTH CAROLINA! They beat Vandy by the hair on their chins and Troy as well. So why, after all that did they deserve the title game more that LSU, Oklahoma (they did actual do something in the regular season), USC (they lost by one point to Stanford) or OSU (loss only one game to an actual BCS team) I'm not writing this because of the AU-UGA rivalry. I really want to know how UGA actually believes the team deserved a spot in the game. Anyone?
I defintely agree with you. As a Florida Gator I hate the Georgia Bulldogs, but i have high regards and respect for their football program. Last football season, they were talking about how they deserved a chance to BCS title but they did not win the conference, much less the division. I understand that the team grew into a better team as the season got nearer to the end, but they didn't deserve a shot to the title for that year. I do believe they should've played in the Rose Bowl against Southern Cal. That probably would have been an extremely great game and even the game of the bowls.
Les Miles would rank #1 in my book Bobby Petrino #2 Phillip Fulmer - Tennessee 8 Mark Richt - Georgia 5 Steve Spurrier - South Carolina 3 Tommy Tuberville - Auburn 9 Urban Meyer - Florida4 Sylvester Crum - Miss St.6 Nick Saban - Alabama 7 Houston Nutt - Ole Miss 10 Rich Brooks - Kentucky 11 Bobby Johnson - Vandy 12
This is for each of you sec team homers that are hating on Spurrier. HE IS the best coach in the SEC. Period. I dont believe any of you on this post who dogs USC has even watched more than 5 South Carolina games since hes been there and 3 of those games were probably against your team. Ive seen every SC game for the last 8 years. I know this team. If not for Sidney Rice leaving early and key injuries to Jasper Brinkley and a few others the Gamecocks would have seriously contended for the East. So just put your coach at USC and see how theyd fare. And for UT fans you shouldnt even be allowed to put in your two cents since you barely beat USC last year and Phil has underachieved for the last 4 years. UGA fans you know that USC is usually toe to toe even given the talent mismatch in the last several years. With that said. 1. Spurrier 2. Richt (H8 UGA but he's a fine coach and person) 3. Saban 4. Meyer 5. Tuberville 6. Nutt 7. Johnson( not getting enough credit) 8. Fulmer and so on...
