Ok, we have all done our share of complaining in light of the recent struggles of our beloved Terps, but is it time for a change? Do you guys think we should fire Gary Williams or not? I think this should open up a pretty good discussion, if everyone explains their vote.

NO we still have a young team, if we don't make it to the NCAA tournament next year then we should definitely get rid of him. This upcoming year should be the one that decides his fate with Maryland.

expectations for this team to be a sweet 16 type team season in and out are BECAUSE of Gary Williams.

He's my coach for life.

Gotta keep Coach. What they do need to do is start getting players with a good head on their shoulders and don't let the losses and wins get to them.  It's like our teams for the past four years have multiple personality disorders.  Think Blake or Dixon have any relatives who could come play for us?

No.  But I do think his inability to recruit close to home is hurting the program.  I don't think he relates to inner city type kids which is why he revamped the staff with Michael Adams, Keith Booth, and Lefty Drisell's son, whose name slips my mind.  We get the "black suburbanites" but not the SteveFrancis /Len Bias type of players.  Inner city kids are tough and hungry and i think the players lately are soft.  I love the flex offense (the best offense in basketball) and the fact that we press and run but if G-Dawg doesn't recruit better it may be time to replace him with Adams or Booth in a few years

here ye! here ye! off with his head i say. his recruiting is piss poor with some of the BEST players in the nation coming out of that area, he really has no excuse. i have a feeling he will end up like bobby cremins. we loved him, named the court after him but, in the end his subpar recruiting led to his demise.

What a novel idea.....let's discuss whether Gary Williams should be fired....AGAIN!  We beat this dead horse to death in the thread "You cannot defend Gary Williams".  Did you think you were bringing something new to the table with this thread?  Maybe you should take a second and do some reading.....there are 4 pages of insight.

As for ACCFan (what a misnomer)....if Maryland has 0 talent.....I guess North Carolina has -2 talent....or 2 points less.  I hope you're still not bitter about the loss in Chapel Hill.  It must hurt to know that your team lost to a team with such little talent......again.

I agree with Memphis...we did this already!

The program needs to stabilize and improve but, firing Williams now is not going solve anything.

Williams brought in some good looking talent and with another year or two Md will be capable of returning to the stature we all expect.

I don't agree however, with those who say Williams is the coach for life or as long as he wants. He must produce...too many revenue issues for Md to keep missing the tournament.

I wasn't seasoned enough to know better back then...but, I'll bet Wade was about all they could get after the Len Bias scandal.

I think Maryland could get whatever kind of coach they wanted now.

Go Terps

With regards to Mr. Wade, keep in mind that things fell apart quickly (with much finger-pointing) with little time to find a new coach.  And he was offered the position with all knowing that he had no material college b-ball coaching experience.

.

But one should be a bit careful about being smug.  With no material college basketball experience Bob W. still got UMD to the second round of the NCAA Tourn. in 1 of his 3 seasons.  And think of the recruiting issues and learning curve that faced him.  The Terps have only made it to the second round of the NCAA Tourn. 1 of the last 4 seasons and have performed very poorly, during this period, when compared to the 17 years before Bob W arrived.

.

Things are a bit different now and there is no immediacy or bad stigma.  So many more coaching options exist including -- do nothing/no change – or even change assistant coaches.  And recent coaching changes at Indiana U and Ok St U indicate several top coaching candidates are not as mobile as many thought.

.

We really haven’t gotten much new information since the end of the season so I doubt if many have, or will soon, change(d) their position on the topic.
