I like your rankings better than that writer. His Superhero references are more painful than the last two games against the Patriots.

Heres mine...
- Patriots.... Giants won far and square, but it wont happen again. Plus, the patties got beat up alil bit by the Chargers before they played the Giants..
- Chargers.....Come on man. Ive give the Giants major credit, but we busted up a good Tenn defense, then got durty in Indy, and Went to Foxboro were injuries were devistating. But not a excuse...
- Colts....Well Payton is the QB.. Dont know any other reason...
- Jags... Beefed up the offense, the defense was good enough. Dont know about that Drayton guy or how hes going to do.
- Cowboys... Unlike the Raiders, they picked up talent that can actually still play, except Rainman aka Pacman Jones.
Honorable mention goes to Pittsburg do to there fresh and no injuries. Still suspect cuz i have really never been sold on Rothlisburger, but he did get a ring, so i wont rip him a new one. But think hes the odd man out on this one.
Everyone else, i dont really care...YET!! Get'em Boltzzz

SOUTH BAY I totally agree with you! I was just trying to be as non -bias as I can be. Sometimes to be non-bias, you have to ignore the truth.
This "East Coast" bias has more prevalent now at days more than ever. If they were really were talking about "strengths" going into the 2008 season, SOUTH BAY REP's list would be posted on ESPN web site.
But the thought of leaving out "the Giants" would cause riots on the east coast. A Super Bowl repeat will not happen again. The stars aligned for them and they came through. Its like for the last 6 years I've heard ESPN broadcasters talk about how the Carolina Panthers are going to have a breakout year, or the Washington Redskins.
I'm surprised the Bears aren't on Vinnie’s list.
Last year I heard talk about how the AFC West (15-33 opponent Record) is the easiest Division in football. Well so was the Patriots Division the AFC East (12-36 opponent Record). But they never mention that.
And then there are the announcers. Those stupid, annoying east coast announcers. Most of the time they can't get the players names right on the Chargers. In the Cincinnati game in 2006, they called Philip Rivers "David Rivers". They even called Antonio Gates "Anthony Gates" and of course they know LT's name and Merriman. But no one else.
When we defeated the Colts in 05 to ruin the Colts perfect season, I though the announcers were going to cry. And even last year 07 when they found out the Chargers were going to play the Patriots, everyone was disappointed (ESPN, CBS, FOX all had some sort of talk show that said "Instead as the much anticipated Colts vs. Pats match up, we are getting the Chargers") and wanted the Colts. The Colts!!!! The team that the Chargers beat twice that same year. One at their house in the Playoffs. But the Pats beat the Chargers earlier in the season, and they'll do it again. Chargers had no chance. Many people gave the Giants a chance in the Super Bowl, and they were considered weaker when compared to the Chargers. They just happen to be in the NFC which is also less difficult.
Jim Nantz and Phil Sims are Charger fans. I always like when they announce our games, they show depth with knowledge in our roster. They're great.
But yea, this year!!
GO CHARGERS!!!!

Vinnie Iyer is SUCH an east coast NFC homer. The Giants at 1 and the Colts at 3??? Yeah, like Archie Manning would ever have HIM over for a BBQ. What a suck-up! And the Cowboys in front of us?? This guy is a putz.

The Patriots, Chargers and Colts are a crapshoot, I think this comes down to injuries and who's hot. The Giants were a fluke, they are good but they played over their heads at the end, and being from Giants-ville, I know that if the Giants start slow, they will be calling for Eli's head. The Cowboys are the team to beat in the NFC.
And as a Chargers fan, the team that scares me the most is Jax.

The superhero references might be the lamest thing I've ever seen, and is clearly a substitute for depth and research.

Bolted4Life
Well obviously this east coast biased writer didn't take his assignment very seriously.
Really, comic book charachters to justify and put rationalle in your rankings? If I was his boss I would have laughed and told him to go back and actually DO his job. Furthermore I'd tell him that the vast majority of NFL fans are more sophisticated than comic book analogy.
Obviously he's just a fan but he gets paid somehow to spew nonsense. I've seen better writing, filled with actual facts to back up their opinions by ordinary posters on CBS sportsline. (Bolted4life is a great writer)
Again, these so called experts are EX SPERTS.
EX = FORMER
SPERTS = WHAT HAPPENS WHEN ONE STROKES THEMSELVES RAPIDLY AND REPEATEDLY
I'm happy my Chargers are still maybe under their radar. They can again be dissapointed when Surprise, surprise the Chargers are in the thick of it late in the playoffs...

I agree 100%. I don't care about the ranking that much. We know we stand heard & shoulder with Patriots and Colts. And yes, Jax & Browns are also in the mix.
The Cowboys are the team to beat in the NFC.
Although Cowboys is the team to beat in the NFC, but don't forget the Vikings this year. They could supprise a lot of teams this year.

No wonder i dont read to much of sporty news! Bolted4life, your right. Normally when your the SB champ, your automaticly the team to beat. So the Giants do deserve to be at #1. But we all know the truth. So if you take them out of the list, we do have the same list...
Damn, i forgot what i was going to say, aahhhh...... Go Chargers....

i can gurantee you the Giants wont repeat as superbowl champions, they barely made the play-offs and beat a string of nfc teams to go to the superbowl.then i think it was more of the Patriots folding than the giants players winning the superbowl but you cant take it away from them.last i heard i think it was sports illstrated had the bolts as the favorite to win the superbowl...oh by the way.the ny giants still have 'i can only throw slants" sheli manning.

I think pre-season power rankings are about as meaningful and useful as draft grades right after the draft. However, that being said, the Chargers could easily be #1 if their run defense improves, their pass rush is more consistent and Rivers and the wide receivers take the next step. Otherwise, I think the Chargers are somewhere in the second tier of teams (out of the top 5, but in the top 10). I'm not sure it matters, though, because the Giants were definitely not one of the top 5 teams last year heading into the playoffs, but they still won the superbowl.

Here's the thing for me...I believe we should be above the Colts cause we beat them twice last year, but for that same reason, I have to place Jax in front of us. They played us very tough and they are a team we have to prove we can beat. So here's my preseason rankings...
1. Giants (Until they lose their first game of the season, they are the team to beat)
2. NE PATS (Obviously we need to prove we can beat these beeatches)
3. Jax (Their running attack is great and they don't turn the ball over)
4. Chargers (The best team football and of all time...they just need to prove it)
5. Indy
6. Dallas (They would be higher if their secondary was any good)
7. Pit.
8. Seattle (their defense and Matt Hasselback keep them in it every year)
9. Cleveland (Up and coming talent, and plenty of playmakers all over the field. If they get their defense to play more consistent up front they will be a threat to almost everyone)
10. Packers ( I think Aaron Rogers will come in and do just fine. THat defense is young enough and quick enough to keep them in games)
I will say that Minnesota could compete for the 10 spot if their QB improves. I would also say that Tennessee could fill that spot for the same reason...
Let me know what you think
