Dodgers put Esteban Loaiza on the DL..they expect to bring up Brazoban to replace him on Friday..with a possible Kershaw callup on May 17th...

I'm not stating any opinion...I'm just stating what I've read on mlb.com and some other blogs...

Just reporting the news..so don't jump down my throat

So lets see....since being picked up by the Dodgers:

2007 1 win 4 losses 8.34 ERA

2008 1 win 2 losses 5.63 ERA

And he makes 7.5 million per year.

Great pick up Ned

who would the Dodgers send down to make room for Clayton Kershaw? Corey Wade, or Brazoban?

I would think they would send down a long reliever if they would take someone out of the bullpen to bring up a starter....unless they are planning on using Kershaw in the bullpen when he first comes up....which would be rediculous IMO.  So that would leave either Kuo (which is doubtful since he's probably going to be the 5th starter now), Park...more probable, or, what I'm thinking, Wade since he's the rookie.  Either way, not to wish an injury on someone, but it's nice to see Loaiza on the shelf for bit.

Torre likes this kid Wade, I doubt he goes. Barring another injury, it would more than likely be Brazoban. Yhency had his chance to be the next Eckersley instead he turned into the next Dreifort (although not as $$$)

Esteban Loaiza is looking like the Dodgers got damaged goods. Losing him to the DL doesn't really hurt the team. He was eating innings but that was about it.

I hope that Yhency Brazoban has recovered from his injury. Before he got hurt, he was a beast in the pen both as a set up guy for Eric Gagne and as a closer when Gagne was hurt.

What dpwtv didn't mention was where Jason Schmidt might fit into this. From what I've read he's making good progress on his rehab and expects to rejoin the team this season. Perhaps the idea is to bring Clayton Kershaw in for a couple of starts until Schmidt comes back. That way you wouldn't hit Kershaw with too big a jump in innings yet get access to his skills early. Then the team could still bring him back with the September call ups.

Even if Schmidt does make it through his rehab assignment and gets back into the starting rotation, do you really have any faith that he'll last more than 2 or 3 starts before his entire arm falls off?  A bit of an exaggeration I know, but not completely unbelieveable considering.  My guess is that it will be Wade that goes down unless Brazoban isn't as or more effective

Chrisj,

The Dodgers have an excellent medical staff. One of the best in all of pro sports. Remember, this is where the "Tommy John Surgery" was invented. If the team docs clear Schmidt to play, I would expect him to be ready, not a Dave Dravecky type disaster waiting to happen.
