Before we check the 2008 stats, let me remind you that if you play in a minimum 10 team league, there will be approximately 150 offensive players used at the same time. It is safe to say that any player ranked in the top 20 in almost any category would be helpful to ANY fantasy baseball team in ANY league. Let me also briefly mention that Nate McLouth plays for the worst team in baseball. No, seriously. The absolute worst. Maybe ever. NOW...
As of 5/1/08:
Nate's 24 RUNS rank #6 in all of Major League Baseball.
Nate's 38 HITS rank #6 in all of Major League Baseball.
Nate's 12 DOUBLES rank #1 in all of Major League Baseball.
Nate's 7 HOME RUNS rank #7 in all of Major League Baseball.
Nate's 25 RBI rank #5 in all of Major League Baseball.
Nate's 73 TOTAL BASES rank #3 in all of Major League Baseball.
Nate's .635 SLUGGING % ranks # 7 in all of Major League Baseball.
Nate's .330 AVG ranks #16 in all of Major League Baseball.
Nate's .412 OBP ranks #19 in all of Major League Baseball.
If you're looking for something that ranks worse than #20, try this.
Nate's 15 KO ranks #155 in all of Major League Baseball.
By the way, as of the 8th inning tonight, Nate is 2 for 3 with 3 RUNS scored, a DOUBLE, a WALK, a SB, and an HBP for a 1.000 ON BASE PCT. That will increase his standings in 7 of those 9 categories.
I've done all the homework I need to for now. I wonder how many other players are ranked above #10 in 7 categories and better than #20 in 9 categories?
Mr. Dobrow, it certainly appears as if you have written about Nate McLouth during one of your "drunker moments". I'm left unclear of your point of this article, except if it was to intentionally destroy your credibility. You either know very little about fantasy baseball or you pay insanely little attention to the actual sport you get paid to write about. Maybe it's time for you to sober up.

I totally agree.... Nate McClouth has been solid for me all season so far.... even tho we are still early in the Fantasy Season... Ive benched Hideki Matsui for him, and have Ichiro waiting his turn as well, as long as McClouth is solid and producing.... and if he happens to just end up a flash in the pan, well.... He is the best stop gap Ive had in a long time...
I say Pick him up in your league if he is available.

Okay.....let's even forget the pure stupidity that including Nate's name in the column represents based off of his beginning to the season. Of course there is a possibility he could be Chris Shelton....but wait........no there isn't. Based off the second half of the 07 season, this is no difference. He did all of his damage after the break last year, despite the organization having little interest in letting him showcase his stuff while parading Nyjer Morgan and Chris Duffy and his poor attitude out there on a daily basis....22 of 23 sb attempts, almost all in the second half...13 homers, at least 8 in the second half, all while not playing everyday......honestly only his average has changed, that and a slightly noticeable 5-8 pounds of muscle he added in the offseason for some extra pop. He's an allstar
*takes a breath* now to the point....mr. columnist, have you actually maybe...WATCHED this kid play? Didn't think so. I have....the past three years.....he's a ball player, he has great speed, great plate discipline, and he hits with pop to all fields. not a half bad center fielder either. 25 rbi out of the leadoff spot with a horrid bottom part of the lineup to be cleaning up on the basis, it shows talent

Your obviously a Pirates fan, and although Nate McLouth has been very good if you think that he will keep this pace up for the rest of the year you haven't done your homework. He is batting .340 which will drop considerably by the end of the year as he is a career .250 hitter. He has hit 7 homeruns, I will go out on a limp (well not really) and say the he won't hit many more than 20 homeruns, so with that be said he has already hit about half in one month of baseball. so spread the other 13 or so out over the next 5 months, not so good. he might steal 20 bags so that helps, look im not saying he is a bum he should definately be on someones team, i just don't want him on mine. He will cool off and so should you Larry is only giving his opinion.

I love Nate McLouth right now. Picked him up after Week 1 in my Fantasy League and he has scored 84 points this year, just behind Chase Utley's 96 on my team

Amen to Nate McLouth - I picked him up when Curtis Granderson began the season on the DL, and if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have been in 1st Place when Granderson came back.
I'll keep him all season.

Dear Brooksy,
Regardless of my current proximity to PNC Park, I am in no way defending a Pirate, just because he is a Pirate. If you ever watched a Pirate game, which I doubt that you have, because they suck, you would know that as a team, they all suck. They lead the league in all categories that prove suckiness. You imagine any stat that says "this team sucks" and the Pirates lead that category. Trust me, they suck! On pace to loose 100 games kinda suck! They will continue to suck! And as long as the Nuttings own that team, they will always suck! Sucky, suckin, suck-suck!!! AAAUUUUUUUGGGHHHH!
(out of breath now...)
Anyway... My homework is always done. And double checked. I'd be offended by anything other than a A+ as far as my homework is concerned. But this one is easy. I can mail it in just like Mr. Dobrow. It's as simple as CBS stats. Currently ranked the number 1 overall CF in baseball. Yet you don't want him on your team. I'm not sure I can find a response that could convince you. You ignorance defies logic. Can you truly expect anyone to believe that you're making a wise and informed decision?

He is the number 1 overall rated center fielder through 1 month of play, would you rather have Nate McLouth more than Carlos Beltran who has been a complete stiff to this point of the season or how about someone like Bobby Abreu i would much rather have him than Mclouth. Mclouth is good i just don't want a good player on my Fantasy team especially at a position so stack with already established studs. If i was a Pirate Fan I would love him to, a hard-nosed player who plays the games all out every play.
In fantasy, stats are all that matters, one month of great play does not crown you the best center fielder in baseball and like i said in my previous post to you Nate Mclouth won't be in the top 20 of outfielders when it is all said and done. Trade him now or a promise, you will regret it. After you read this th | |
