Tabler for sure, he doesn't have an annoying voice and he knows the game very well.
As for Cambell, he is a tool. Honestly, I say the exact same thing he says 5 seconds before he says it. I'm convinced that there are mics in my basement linked to sportsnet and he steals my material.
If that's not it, then there's only 2 options left. 1) I am just as qualified as Jamie Cambell for the job, or 2) Cambell assumes every Blue Jays fan is an idiot, and thus only states the most obvious things ever.
I put it Tabby, easily, then Fletch... even though he seems to not know 100% what is going on with the Jays (probably doesn't watch them when he isn't on the job). And for Rance, the repetition and dumbing down of everything (I get it, there are some lesser fans that probably benefit, but he goes a bit far) makes me want to watch on mute.
I hate watching the Jays in canadian TV i have an american satellite so i watch the broadcast from NY, Bos, TB ETC. They arent all good but they are definately better than the Jays
well whoever created the thread, thank you, because i was just about to create one to ask where on earth tabler is this year. last season the jays were on sportsnet for 120 games and tabby did all but the west coast (rance), kc (fletch) and a few home series. so that makes me wonder why rance is doing so many games that are in toronto and on the east coast? i love him but there is no tv commentator like tabby in terms of the jays.
All the "color" guys are decent but the play-by-play guy, Jamie Campbell, has to be the worst in baseball. He makes me cringe sometimes with his cliches and statements of the obvious. How does this guy keep his job?
As far as watching other broadcasts, I've seen most and they are all homers. The White Sox with the Hawk has to be the worst homer in the business.
However Rance isn't bad.... My problem in the Jays broadcast both is in the form of Jamie Campbell. I cannot stand this guy. I find myself dubbing over the tv sound with the radio call of Jerry Howarth and Alan Ashby because this guy is just awful.
I almost prefer the radio, i mean, i have a good enough imagination that i could see everything thats happening pretty clear, and Howarth and Ashby are great at their jobs.
As for Cambell.... I dont know, i have no beef with him, but i dont know if the guy has any background in sports whatsoever, it would be nice to bring in an Ex-Jay to fill his position. Well, im sure Cambell will grow on us eventually if he keeps his job, im sure he will come into his own and grow on us.
Whats happening in this city as far as the voices for the teams go? The Leafs commentators Harry Neale and Bob Cole broke up, but we still have Neale i believe. Chuck Swirsky has announced his upcoming departure from Toronto to Chicago, and he was a top notch Voice who will be sorely missed in this town depending on who his replacement is.
I believe Chuck Swirsky's departure has to do with a family matter, nothing personal. The guy loves Toronto and he will be missed...
As for getting some ex-jays in the box, i couldnt agree more... Are any ex-jays currently doing broadcasting around the league? Just trying to guage whose even interested in broadcasting...
Ex Jays in the booth? Tabby, Rance, Fletcher are all ex-jays. You don’t want a former athlete as your play-by-play guy. That’d be awful. My complaint with the 3 rotating colour guys is, while they are all tolerable, I guess, none are really all that interesting nor funny. A colour guy should be just that…colourful.
As for Cambell, he sounds really too green to be calling Major League ball, but I still find myself rooting for him. You can certainly appreciate his love and excitement for the game, as he doesn’t sound as ‘over polished’ and bored, as some veteran broadcasters. I’m holding out hope for him.
I voted for Pat Tabler. He knows the game and he shares a lot of things that some of us might not have known. He's always sharing cool stories about when he played, too.
I'd love to see him and Chris Cuthbert(one of the best commentators ever) team up some time. It's too bad that's highly unlikely to happen.
On a side note, Jim Hughson should stick to hockey.
