Who else thinks Steve Trachsel will be out of baseball by the all star break? The O's have way better guys in triple A and in the bullpen who could start over him. Trachsel should be throwing BP, he'd be a great BP pitcher, you know the only time you want t guys to smash it out of the park, he'd be great at that. I was right about Aquino and now its Trachsel's turn.
Simply put, nobody wanted him last season, we fleeced they Cubs just getting a warm body for him and again this season nobody wanted him. This guy doesn't have MLB stuff and hasn't in 2 years. 7.43 era pathetic.
I will agree that Trachsel will not make it though the all star break. But I'd only want people brought up that are 100% ready for the majors. This year is supposed to be about rebuilding and bringing up pitchers the right way. I dont want to see anybody rushed up just because Trachsel is not pitching that well right now. I dont want a young pitcher to come up just to have his confidence crushed.
get him out of the rotation ASAP. I for one thought bringing him back this year was a good idea. But after seeing how well guys like Albers and Jim Johnson have done i think he has sealed his fate. I have to agree with SkeetersO's that he may as well stay if no one else is ready, but i gotta think Albers deserves a shot. But alot depends on Loewen's injury and if he'll be back any time soon.
yeah im definatley looking forward to the day tracshel is out of baltimore. your right skeeter0s, we cant rush somebody from AAA, but we dont need to because we have two very capable guys in our bullpen. even though he is the only veteran starting pitcher we have, someone who cant make it out of 3 innings shouldn't be allowed to teach our young pitchers. thats like having an illiterate parent teaching their kid how to read.
Steve Trachsel may not be pitching well (his numbers sure say that he isn't), but the intangibles he brings to the pitching staff are immeasurable. Steve came back to the Orioles knowing he would serve as a mentor to the young pitchers, and bring a veteran leadership to the staff. Eating some innings would have been preferred, but it is early and although his performance has been less than stellar, he probably deserves at least 12 starts before he is lynched by the angry Baltimore fans.
Let's not forget that Matt Albers did start 18 games for the Astros last year. He's been a starter his entire career and probably belongs in the 4 or 5 spot in the rotation. But his early success in the long relief role has been a blessing to the O's (see Trachsel above as one of those reasons). Perhaps the chemistry should not be messed with.
And Dragon is right. You don't want to have another Daniel Cabrera on your hands. If he was given the proper training and time in the minors, he may have been dominant in the league today. Garrett Olson and Jim R. Johnson have had early success too. But young pitchers have fragile psyches. It is imperative that they be brought along the right way.
