As much fun as I've had watching ND and UConned take it on the chin for the past week, here's a possible win, win for ND and Rutgers.  What do you think of this RU fans?

A 1-1-1

First game  Yankee Stadium (the new one)  Rutgers has played nine times at YS throughout its history, Notre Dame has played 16.  50/50 Spit on everything.  ND gets seats for about 25,000 fans instead of the 3,000 at Rutgers, gets its NYC game, and RU is treated as an equal partner. Away game for both. Flip a coin for home uniforms.

Second and third games-  Home and home at ND and Rutgers Stadiums

This I would like to see, and the networks would go nuts over this.  The most storied football program vs. the oldest.  Played on the field (well across the street anyway) where Rockne gave his "Win One for the Gipper " speech.  Home of numerous ND/Army, ND/Syracuse battles (Not to mention RU/NYU games.  NYU used to kick our butts regularly, until the last game RU 40-0).

Even as a Met fan I like this.  Yeah, you're losing 25,000 seats from the new Meadowlands.  But ND would get only 3,000 at Rutgers Stadium. And ND's proposal was 40% of the 80,000 (32,000) so they're really losing only 7,000 seats  So you're trading 12,500 seats for playing at a historic venue against a historic program.  And sure Yankee Stadium isn't a specifically designed football stadium.  But neither was the original.  This is the closest college football will ever get to a "throwback" game.

ND stays out of NJ.  They play their UConned series at Foxboro. But they get a game in NYC every three years if the series renews.  I know I'm a dreamer. But this really has some good points.  Please respond as a Rutgers fan if you'd go. I know it's unlikely that the Domers would agree.

Depending on the time of the year for the Yankee Stadium game, I don't know if the Yankees would do it. I can't imagine Hank Steinbrenner is going to want to rip up the field in the middle of September and October for a football game. They could play in November but its rare for a good teams to play out of conference games against a quality opponent that late.

I would be all for playing a 1-1-1 game with ND with the neutral site game being anywhere between Baltimore/DC and the Meadowlands. I would even play ND once in South Bend without a return game. But if we are being charged with a home game we better be playing in P'way.

I don't like the idea of playing home games anywhere but at Rutgers Stadium.  Even if we played a series where 2 of 3 or 3 of 5 were in South Bend, I could deal with it.  But caving in at all is just as bad as what UConn did.  No way do we give in at all on homes games, ESPECIALLY to them!  As I said in an earlier post, I'd rather sign up for long series with a Big 10 or ACC team, anyway.

no way the new yankee stadium has this game...now if they sped up the agreement..the old yankee stadium is a real possibility

Rutgers Stadium or nothing... Notre Dame is a sham... They make demands like their LSU, Texas or USC.  I don't care what their history is, the team has lost 10 straight bowls and had 3 wins last year so I conceed nothing to them.

How many RU students would be able to trek up to Yankee stadium from New Brunswick or Piscataway?

This whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth.

We really don't "need" to play them. Besides the decent exposure we already get, (despite not having played them in 6 years), if we had beat WVU and Cincy in 2006, there's a good chance we'd have gone to the NC game with an OOC of Illinois, Howard, UNC, Ohio, and Navy..

At this point, I'd rather not play ND at all. We should focus on home-homes with UCLA, WIsconsin, Texas.
