I can't disagree that the team has a colorful history with a lot of admirable players and moments. The distaste comes from the fact that everything but the last four years seems to have disappeared from the psyche. Then again, some of them would actually have to have been Red Sox fans since before 2004 to remember some of those things, and clearly there are plenty of bandwagon jumpers who don't remember those days. They were cheering for the Yankees back then.
When a team was in a similar situation to yours, in that of a long championship drought, and a mere three years later, they look down on you like they're God's gift to baseball and only they and the Yankees matter, it's a little hard not to get perturbed and annoyed. I'm not saying they all do that, but a lot of the "suddenly" Red Sox fans around here sure do.
