SI's Peter king ranks us 7th

I find our preseason ranking kind of funny but really he's right with the parity salary caps and free agency brings to each team anything goes each year anymore. Hey, the Giants squeaked out a good playoff run and more did they not?  I'm not one to take much from rankings and King's is very much out there but what else is there to talk about this week? Mini camp?

He thinks Allen was a dangerous move? It was risky, but it will work out I believe. The passing game being uproven is going to be taken care of by Berrian or course and I know Sidney Rice is going to have a breakout season. which is going to help which ever QB is throwing for the Vikings (most likely Jackson, but I don't said that pending injuries.)

One thing he didn't mention was the O line. That's what really bothers me. Cook and Herrera are decent players and I have nothing against them, but it still just worries me especially with Shianco down there too.

He brought up a good point when he mentioned Green Bay (2007) New Orleans (2006) and the 2004 Steeleres or whatever years they were. I think Minnesota will be the 2008 team.

I think the New England dynasty is going down the hill and same with Indianapolis. 

My prediction for the Vikings is fishing somewhere first to fourth place.

  I see the best defense of ALL-TIME about to have a superior year!  They will have to put two people on Jared Allen and one of the Williams.  That means one Williams to have single and Edwards to be single covered.  EJ Hendersen will be a pro bowler this year for sure!  Chad Greenway will show everyone why he was drafted.  The key this year is blitz, blitz, and blitz!  This defense will break many records I feel this year.  And as they say defense wins championships.  If not this year,next year the Vikings WILL be in the Superbowl! 

  Tarvaris Jackson doesn't even have to be that good.  Just don't turn over the ball. Get the ball the AP and Taylor and throw for 150 yards and we win.  Will take some getting used to with us being smash nosed again versus through the air.  But smash mouth is a great way to beat up teams and the Vikings will do just that this year.  I don't think 15-1, but I could for sure see 12-4, maybe 13-3, depending on the Indy game.  We are stacked on both sides of the line for the first time since the metropolitan Vikings.  The days of Allen Page and Jim Marshall.  It is a great time in Vikings history about  to unfold.  Enjoy!  I know I will.  We more then anyone deserve a championship!

see 2001 Ravens...the Vikings defense was better the last 2 years against the run than the Ravens of '01.  They had a better pass defense obviously, but because of their division more than anything.

Anyone else remember Millard and Doleman?

Pass Defense: I guess I cant create a thread, but just wanted talk some Vikings football

The past several years the Vikings pass defense has ranked near the bottom of league.  On the other hand their rush defense has ranked at or near the top of the league.  While its true that opponents often give up on trying to run which can lead to bad pass defense statistics, I think we can all agree there was much room for improvement.

This season the Vikings will make that jump from a good defense to an elite defense.  It will be the best unit on the field sundays and it will win us games this year. The reason being that we will now be able to shut down the pass as well as the run.

 Up front, the addition  of Jarad Allen will have a tremendous impact on our pass defense which has been lacking for the last several years.  With the william twins eating up offensive linemen opponents will be forced to block J.A. w/ only one guy. On the outside a healthy Antoine Winfield allows Marcus McCauly to move over to the nickle back which pretty solid third down defense.  I'm curious to see Madiau Williams in acrtion, heard good things, but have never watched him play.  Our linebackers are not great pass defenders, I was especially dissapointed w/ Greenways pass defense last season, TEs burned him all day and his drops were poor.  But he is a season smarter so hopefully that will improve. EJ Henderson owns the run and he blitzes like an animal so I could care less what he does on pass plays.  Leber is an impressive player, does everything well.

Our defense will be much more balanced and much more dangerous this year.  Should be fun to watch.
