Alright I have been watching him play since he was officially a rookie in 1995.  And never before have a I seen him have such poise at the plate.  He's not slowing down!  He can win an MVP, he's not slowing down.  Last year was a testament to what age and experience has done for his patience and production, offensively and defensively.  First ballot Hall of Fame here comes Larry!

Agreed.  Even if he had a bad year this year he would still be first ballot HOF.  I dont know if I have seen anyone as locked in as Chip is right now.  It seems that he is doing anything he wants at the plate.  Going the other way on outside pitches.  Not chase anything.  Pulling inside pitches "todays dong" at will.  He was sitting dead red on a full count and took it out of the park.  Ho Hum...

My first reaction to MVP was its a little early however,  Seeing that he has been in this grove for a month I can certainly see it.

This is another possibility.  A .400 batting average season?

I remember watching Chipper back when he was with the single A Durham Bulls in the old DAP (Durham Athletic Park).  Ah those were the days, cheap tickets, cheap beer and occasionally some good baseball.   But we could see how talented Chipper was even then.  I'm happy to see him having a great career and such a stellar year so far.

Chipper has been playing great but injuries have hurt him already this year iam sure he will land on the DL sometime this year.

ESPN had one of those "Expert" shows on not to long ago and to a man they all agreed that if Chipper's career were to end now, he would not make it into the hall.  He should get over the 400 HR mark easily this year (about 395 right now).  His change of positions also means that they can't "compare" his stats to any one position.  I personally think that is all BS but there are several HOF players not in the Hall right now.  I say he plays until he gets 500 HR and then there is no argument.   Would be great if he keeps this up the whole year and gets the MVP!  My baseball card collection would like that as well!

Heard the same about no Hall...jokes on them.  Top 5 third basemen all-time.  Nough said.  As for .400, not possible.  Little pessimistic I know but as much as I love Chip we aint Mantle you know?

I completely agree. I mean the guy is a very good player, one of the best 3Bs of this generation, but not the best. He's very good offensively, but not great. He's good defensively, but not great. Odds are he doesn't reach 500 HRs since he's already 36 and has a history of lingering injuries. The guy has been playing in the majors for 14 years and he's not even top 10 in hits and doubles among active players, let alone all-time. He doesn't even have 2200 hits yet and its a stretch to believe he'll reach 3000. He'll need another 4 good years, by then he'll be 40, to approach 500 HRs and another 5 or 6 to approach 3000 hits. Keep in mind he hasn't hit over 30 HRs since 2001. If he reaches both 500 and 3000, he's a lock, but I wouldn't count on that.
