Well, whaddya know? More Clemens news. This time, a long term relationship (affair) lasting 10 years with country music singer Mindy McCready. Of course, Clemens denies everything as expected. The thing that made me think people would have something to say about this is that this relationship started when she was 15 years old which would have made Clemens around 28 years old at the time. So by law, that would make Clemens a rapist as well as a liar and a cheater. Have you ever seen someone fall from grace so fast? The chase kept Bonds from disappearing all of a sudden, but man, it must suck to be Roger Clemens right now.

Huh.  I took a look at that article...I wonder if he did sleep with her.  He doesn't have much credibility right now, but he *could* be telling the truth that they were friends only.  Even if he didn't, the story ruins his chances in that defamation suit, I'd say, because half the people who read it will assume the worst, and understandably so.  Sucks to be him.

What I heard yesterday was that McCready did not deny the allegations--which more or less means she confirmed them.  Not much detail on this so far, but this is what you get for being a jerk like Clemens and then claiming in a defamation suit that you're a really stand-up guy.  You make that claim in a legal proceeding YOU KNOW they're going to dig up anything they can to counter it.  Purely as a question of whether or not Clemens is a nice guy, this is relevant.

In terms of a pure steroid investegation, it's meaningless tabloid fanfare.  The question at issue is whether or not McNamee is telling the truth about Clemens drug use, and this has nothing to do with it.  Sounds just a bit specious to me to suggest that Clemens relationship with McCready means he isn't a nice guy, which means he probably did lie about taking steroids, which means he probably isn't being defamed...

Bottom line is, this is getting ugly, and like it or not it's mostly Clemens fault.  The s.o.b. did it and he knows it, and he's trying to save a reputation he doesn't deserve.  So I really don't care how ugly this thing gets now.

Was having a conversation with a friend the other day about role models...He seemed to think that sports figures shouldn't be held up as role models.  I would agree with him as far as most athletes are concerned, as they just do their job and live their lives, but there are some that have made themselves role models, and Clemens is one of those who has held himself out as someone people should admire...Now all this, and of course he denies everything, but in the court of public opinion, he's guilty, so what does that say about the people we want our kids to try to pattern their lives after?  (I mean aside from us, as parents...) I'm sure that there are plenty of other stars our kids can look up to, but who knows what's going to come out about them?

I don't know Roger Clemens or any of his family or friends, so I am not defending him. However I am greatly concerned over what has happened to the Society we live in... not too long ago(a few years), Roger was considered a Sports Hero. Some scumbag comes crawling out of the woodwork and accuses our Heroes of heinous actions, and the great Masses believe the scumbag!!! Now let me repeat that:The great masses believe the scumbag over our Hero!!! Perhaps some developed a dislike of the Hero since he defeated our "Home Team" so many times... and maybe some were envious of his successes, but is this any reason to concur with Brian McNamee? A disgusting human being who admitted to cheating the Game and tried to drag down as many as he could with him? Or perhaps we should believe Jose Canseco... a washed up and obviously bitter former player who is capitalizing like no other during this trial of American Sports?? No one has come forward with any plausible physical evidence, so we are witnessing a verbal sparring match..."He said, He said"  Hence we have a challenge of character, and the scumbags legal team is trying to destroy the Hero's character any way they can. Someone tell me what  a relationship with someone outside of the Game has to do with the Question at hand! Are we expecting to hear that Ms. McCready injected Roger with steroids? Or perhaps she was Rogers connection? In my mind this has nothing to do with Rogers public life and we should be appalled at the tactics employed by the scumbags legal team...but then again, he is a scumbag!

I believe the "Round Mound of Rebound" Charles Barkley was the first athlete to publicly proclaim " I am not a role Model"! I agree with your point of the Public Hero problem, but I have a different slant on it. You may notice how many of the disgraced Public Heroes are at the end of their careers... after years of adulation earned through hard work and accomplishment, the "Court of Public Opinion" turns on the Heroes like a pack of wolves on a fawn!! When we are done with them, and they no longer live up to the exorbitantly high expectations we put on them, the gravediggers come out dirt tossing so we can turn our backs on them!! Since we have no actual proof, only supposition, on Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens, I must pose this question...Are they guilty of something underhanded, or are we?

kpk, it has to do with his defamation case. He wants people to believe he is an upstanding honest person who would never cheat or lie and therefore, we should believe him. If he was having a sexual relationship with a 15 year old girl at the age of 28, that shoots down the entire core of his defense. That makes him a rapist and an adulterer and even more of a liar. Clemens had his best seasons in his 40's which you don't do without help, that's one reason why people believe McNamee. Second, he has DNA evidence on syringes that he injected him with (silly cops) AND his wife admitted to being shot up with HGH by McNamee with Clemens' knowledge. There are so many reasons why people don't believe Clemens. This man is not a hero, he is a villan in a hero's costume. If this is the kind of person you think we should consider a hero, then there really is something wrong with this world. He is not a hero, HE is the scum and he deserves whatever comes to him. He brought this on himself and I have no sympathy. If he was any kind of man, he wouldn't have gotten himself in this mess. He wouldn't have cheated, he wouldn't have been with a fkin teenager in his late 20's to early 30's and he wouldn't have to lie about anything now. No sympathy at all for this "scumbag" that goes by the name of Roger Clemens.
