The Red Sox and Bartolo Colon mutually agreed to move back the date (I believe its May 13th now), due to the injury that Colon was dealing with.

Could be that Tavares is gone when Colon comes up and he'll be used in long relief. I don't see him replacing Clay after his last two outings.

maybe they will use someone for a big trade with a package with coco maybe? thought just ocured to me. Besides they cant really get rid of Tavarez hes one of Manny's best friends and a happy Manny is a good Manny.

Colon would probably go to the bullpen for now. Tavarez is too versatile as along reliever to get dropped.

Are you kidding - I've seen beached whales that were in better baseball shape than this guy. Believe me I'm praying that they bring him up - he's good for at least 6 quick losses.

haha since when is a guy who won CY Young a few years ago never good? He has been injured the past few seasons so we dont know what to expect from the guy. People could have said the same thing about David Ortiz only he was never good before he came to the sox. and hes only 34 years old and should still have some more good years left.

Clay is gone to the 15 Day DL for a torn fingernail this is weak maybe this is a sign of him getting sent down. And Sean Avery how do you say Big Papi is done not even close bro he is still young and will continue to play good and hit homers that statement you wrote is the worst thing i have ever heard "Big Sloppy" how old are you 10. I want to see some starts out of Craig Hansen, but they are the Boston Red Sox so they will get through it however they have to.

Colon is on rehab at Pawtucket. The new date as to when he can declare free agency if he's not on the big club is 6/1. The Sox likely have until Tuesday to make a decision as to who replaces Buchholz in the rotation (assuming they keep Beckett and Lester on normal rest to pitch Sun. & Mon.), and Colon may not be ready, which could mean another cameo appearance by Pauley or Masterson. I think Colon is likely to pitch the rest of the season with Boston, with Buchholz going to Pawtucket after his DL stint is up. I'm not sure we'll see Clay agin until September, if then, because Schilling may be available in the 2nd half as well. Too many quality starters is a problem many teams wish they had.

Update: Bart just threw 6 brilliant shut-out innings for the PawSox. Hmmm...Sox need a starter for Tuesday, 5 days from now...could Colon give them 5 or 6 innings against KC? I say bring on Bartolo!

Colon looked even better than how the 1 hitter sounds. I was at the game, and he was absolutely sharp. Doubtful that he's ready to be called up yet, but he mopped the floor with Buffalo.

I'm expecting to see Bartolo Colon called up to make the start in place of Clay Buchholz. Usually when trying to strengthen an arm through pitch counts the step after the 65-70 pitch range is 85-90, and I think Colon can do that at the Major League level and give the Red Sox 5-6 innings.
I was really encouraged to see that his velocity was getting up to mid 90s. The past couple of years when he's been hurting his fastball was topping out between 88-90. He was sharp with his location, he had good velocity, I think he's ready to come up now. I don't know what will happen with Buchholz when he comes off the D.L. Unless Colon really struggles in his first start or two I don't believe they can or will send him back down. I have a feeling that Clay will come off the D.L. and make some "rehab starts" at Pawtucket while the Red Sox wait to see if Colon can be healthy and successful pitching with the big league team.

Colon will be called up because he has an "out" clause that kicks in on June 1 if he is not with the Sox. He might not make it for the start this Tuesday though. That could go to Pauley or Masterson. I also don't believe the report that he was in the mid 90's with his fastball. It was likely more in the 91-93 range. He could be serviceable if he is healthy, but I wouldn't expect the Colon of 2002-2005.
Buchholz would be the much better option for the remainder of the seaaon, but this is a way to limit his innings. The DL stint will also give Clay some time to regroup as he will likely head to the minors after that to pitch 4-5 innings at a time. I would expect Clay back in August to help down the stretch, whether it's starting or relieving.
Schilling should also be back in July or August. Depending on how well the staff is doing, it might not be a bad idea to use him as a reliever assuming the Mike Timlin role in the bullpen.
