you have to ask it like this. if Pete didnt achieve what he did in baseball would he be in the hall of fame.the answer is no. but what that man did when he was on ANY FIELD. was nothing less than hall of fame material. players did things we will never know about. should they be in the hall of fame. the real answer to me is, if they dont let PETE ROSE (CHARLIE HUSTLE) in. then they should just discontinue it all together. in this FREE country if you do a crime , get caught , you pay the price, he went to jail , they said he did his time.TIME SERVED! I am a RED all the way. if what he did affects his baseball , then it should affect it all, then we would have to give back a couple of CHAMPIONSHIPS, & WORLD SERIES. in short . he deserve it . no way around it. back in baseball thats another Question.
GO Reds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree. Pete never gets back into baseball, but the man's feats on the field and the passion he played the game with would have gotten anybody else into the Hall. The all time hits leader by such a big margin over EVERYBODY who ever played the game besides Ty Cobb(There's a guy less deserving than Pete if we're getting personal.) not in the Hall? How is that credibility? Pete handled the situation badly, but records are records and he didn't cheat to get his. Put him in.

Pete should be alowed in the Hall of Fame. I don't know if it really matters if he is alowed back in the game. Pete has been away so long and his age, he probably wouldn't be able to contribute much as a coach. I think that there has been alot worse things that people have done to hurt baseball than what Pete has done. Also the same people who said that he should come clean, and admit what he did. then let him back in baseball are the same ones that say he shouldn't be alowed in because he lied.

4,256 hits! The all-time hit king HAS to be in the HOF! The man bet on baseball as a manager, I understand that. He's not going into the hall of fame as a manager. He would go in for what he did in between the white lines. Nuff said.

Like a lot of is Pete is his own worst enemy. He was the greatest baseball player of a generation. In 2009 it will be 20 years since his banishment. Twenty years is enough punishment to ensure that no one ever bets on baseball again. Where Rose differs from the 1919 Black Sox is there is no evidence that he ever intentionally lost a game to win a bet.
But as lost as Buf Selig has a breath in his body Rose will remain in baseball purgatory. And it would be hypocritical to put Rose in the Hall of Fame after he is dead.
And all we will have is memories. Hitting a line drive up the middle. Going from first to third. Bowling over Ray Fosse in the 1970 All Star Game and scoring the winning run. It's too bad Fosse was hurt and never recovered. Moving to 3rd base without notice in 1975 putting the team on a two year tear that only Luis Tiant's great World Series slowed down. In the 76 Word Series he dared Mickey Rivers to hit a ball down his throat. That team is still the only ream to sweep the LCS and WS in the same year. The 44 game hitting streak in his last year before going to Philadelphia. Going to the Philies for less money because they were "ready to win" their only championship. And my dad got tickets to an insignificant game against the Padres and sold them when I got a job in Florida. That game was hit 4192. But all that doesn't mean anything since Rose bet on baseball. And now that's all a lot of people remember.
No Rose, no Rocket, no Bonds. And they say baseball isn't a religion.

Rose, like Joe Jackson, will never make the Hall. No commissioner will ever override the decision of a previous one. Just won't happen.
Deserving or not, he just won't ever get in.
I could see letting him back in the game, though. I'd like to see him as a "spiritual adviser" to the players. Just his wisdom and attitude would rub off on players. He's highly respected for that reason. The fans love the guy. He'd be an asset to the game.
But the Hall of Fame?
Won't happen.
Clemens, McGwire face the same fate, though I think Bonds will be forgiven IF he gets off his current mess unscathed.
