Great post! Kobe Bryant "is" the MVP
"is" and has been, arguably for the last 7-8 years. He's been doing it for the Lakers - demonstrating both the ability to score in bunches when he has to and close big games - literally for the last 8 years. I'm sure his detractors would say that with this unique ability and longevity come the negatives; the ill-advised shots, the posturing with the refs, his inability to always get along with certain teammates, his propensity for playing "GM" all too often - a game he has, thankfully, no talent for, the fall from grace in Colorado...but you know what? Balance that against all the good...no, all the great things he's done for the Lakers over the years; the scoring, the defense, the intensity, the sacrificing of the body, those unbelievable moments that elevate him to "best to ever play the game" territory, and that it's all about work and winning from the start of training camp to the end of the long season - and I'd say on balance, the good definitely outweighs the bad.
And let's not forget Lakers Mgmt. for always sticking with Kobe through thick and thin and for always supporting him as much as they possibly could, and for making sure that there were always enough good, and sometimes great, supporting players to enable him to realize his potential on almost a nightly basis.
