Who should be the number 1 runningback for Oregon State next season?

The jury is still out for me. I originally thought it would be a battle between Q Rodgers and McCants but now Francis is really showing he could to the job as well. From what I hear, Francis can catch the ball as well as run. The big question is can he block and make the quick decision who should be blocked. McCants is big and should be able to block well. I haven't heard anything about his being able to catch the ball. He has had one advantage over Francis in that he has been in the OS system for a year and knows the plays and has been practicing with a great run defense. Q Rodgers, well I don't think he is coming to OS to redshirt for a year. We know he makes good decision on when and where to hit the holes and most of all he has the determination to excel. I don't know much about is blocking and receiving skills.
If you had to pin me down, then I see McCants has the primary RB. I think though that Riley will find some way to use all 3 players. There is too much talent there to just sit on the bench.

Yeah, I think McCants will get the ball most of the time, but the other two will get some play time as well on long drives, and in the 4th if the beavs are up by more than a few they will get most of the quarter. I think they really can begin to groom the other two and develop them, while at the same time making the major ground pounder/pass blocker McCants.

He was an excellent reciever in highschool and a very good blocker. If you got to see any of his playoff highlights from last year, there were some huge down the field touchdown receptions. Converted a 3rd and 20 with a catch in double coverage vs Ausitn LBJ. He also had a 70yd touchdown reception in that game against a big time defense. He loves contact, loves to hit. Im not sure how that will translate to college where the guys are much bigger but he certainly was a willing and effective blocker the few times the play wasnt actually called for him.
I vote for McCants from all Ive heard this guy has it all. I doubt Quizz will have a legitimate shot at the #1 RB job his freshman year.

I voted for McCants, but it was a tough call. I really like what I am hearing about Francis. He may actually be more ready for a Pac-10 season, but McCants does have an entire year of learning under his belt. I'd like to see them both play a lot (65/35) and let the more productive of the two begin to get more carries.
If Quizz really is more explosive than his brother, then I want to see him on the field immediately. I hope the coaches line him up for some fly sweeps like older bro, and give him some KO return chances.
The problem is, the Beavers have too many big time players at the skill positions. It is a problem I don't mind having.

I know Ive said this a few times already but Quizz is a different style player then his brother. He's just as tough, loves contact like his brother but he is not as fast as James. What he has is incredible quickness out of cuts. He can stop and start on a dime, he has some of those Barry Sanders type stop/bounce backward cuts and on the first forward step he is at full speed. He explodes out of cuts and has great vision. He is fast dont get me wrong but he is not the "flysweep" type of player he is more a between the tackles runner, hit the hole hard and explode out the other side. Check out his first highlight reel on Rivals.com. the first time you try to watch it will be free. If you try again the same day it asks for money. Those were sophmore/junior highlights.

He makes people miss and has great field vision but hes not as fast as James. However, I never saw him get caught from behind in highschool.

I watched the video. This is probably not the best analogy but it reminded me of the county fair when you watch the greased pig competition. The pig cuts on a dime, goes here goes there and when you get a hand on the pig and think you've got him he just slips out of your grasp. When you watch the video he just slips through the defenders, fakes them out or makes good decision to use his own players as blockers. If he is that good, then he may take the starting job away from McCants. It will be tough but he could. I think Riley will probably rotate in the RB's between Francis, Rodgers, & McCants so that you always have a fresh pair of legs. Maybe have a couple of plays with two of them in the game at the same time.

The thing about Riley is that he is totally committed to old school ball. If a guy can't block at runningback, there is absolutely no way he's getting many reps. He could have inserted Yvenson Bernard during his freshman year, but he was small and he had concerns that he could not block. We all know how that year turned out (Dwight Wright and his sub-3 yards a carry average, anyone?), but Riley remained firm. Until Bernard could block, he wasn't playing.
Because of this, I believe that the starting running back on opening day will be Jeremy Francis, who is a better blocker than McCants. McCants has the physical skills to be a great blocker, but he needs to polish up those attributes.
Two to Three games in, I'll going to say that McCants takes over the rest of the way, with him rotating with Francis at about 60-40.
Jacquizz Rodgers might be put in as a third down back or may even challenge for the starting job, but my guess is that he redshirts, as the need at running back is almost nil.
I just got to say that I love having this many choices at RB. Running-back U, anyone?
