I think that Gus Frerotte and Josh McOwn will see the field before Booty or Henne if Jackson and Beck don't work out. I don't see Booty or Henne being opening day material.

Last year, I figured that the Redskins depth chart was 1) Campbell, 2) Brunell 3) Collins. It turned out that Collins was the #2.
I wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings opening day depth chart was 1) Jackson 2) Booty 3) Frerrote.
Jackson has turned out to be a brittle guy, missing games and leaving games due to injury.

Yes, but Collins wasn't a rookie, and knew the offense already. Plus, Brunell is done.
In Minnesota, I think Jackson gets the nod,. And until something terrible happens, is the QB. The Vikings are thinking playoffs, anf I don't think Booty is ready for that.
In Miami, I think the smart thing to do would be to start McCown. I personally believe he is a much better QB than some of these talking heads are letting on. But, if the offensive line isn't shored up, it wont matter. Plus, they don't really have much talent at reciever yet, so my guess is they'll let McCown take the beating, and we'll probably see Beck and Henne after McCown gets hurt.

Jackson will start and he'll play the entire year unless:
a. he gets hurt or
b. he doesn't avoid the costly mistakes
The Vikings didn't pick up all these free agents to start a rebuilding project around a mediocre 5th round draft pick. They're going to take their chances on a great defense, a great running game, and a QB that simply runs the offense. A rookie QB can't step in and simply run an offense, and while Jackson was the definition of inconsistency last year I promise that he's better than a rookie right now.
If he keeps his turnovers low the rest of the team will win the games for him. If Rex Grossman made it to the super bowl anybody can.

If you look back, the best transition for new QBs drafted is to be behind a veteran for at least a year first before getting thrown in there - especially if you have a suspect line blocking for you. The highly picked QBs that are thrown in right away really have a hard time getting used to NFL systems and usually go to teams that struggled the year before, so naturally will be rushed and hit more which further damages the confidence.
Both Minnand Miami need to start the veteran guys for at least the first 8 games (although i don't like john beck beind called "Veteran" here, but I don't think McKowen is the answer), let the new guys get used to how it works and use those guys as mentors, then go from there

Someone further up on the posts said that Jackson has been brittle? I dont think you can really say that he is brittle, because he suffered from a concussion, and a broken finger.
I think Jackson will continue to start, continue to run the offense, and be able to open the run game for the Vikings.

why are they always complaining about T-Jack...its not like he ever really had a qb's coach untill last year....He needs at least 2 yrs to really start to blossom. What you saw in denver when he brought the Vikes back was not a fluke. If childress lets Jack play his game he wouldn't be talked about not being the quarterback in Vikes future. Cut the guy some slacks. He was thrown under the bus the year before and last years' season. Looks at his stats now compare to other quarterbacks....he has better stats than eli...and other quarterbacks.....NY stuck with Eli this long...and he got them the supabowl...so shut up about t-jack not being able to quarterback us into a supabowl....get back to me on this subject in 5yrs...How many games did Manning's won before they started really winning?

I think Jackson will start to open the season and as long as Minn. is winning he will stay, but I think if they get off to a bad start after 5 or 6 games they will replace him with the vet for two or three games to see if he can right the ship and if that doesn't happen I can see Booty starting the final 3 or 4 games this year and being the starter going into 2009.That situation of course will probably spell adios to childress. As for Henne I think Parcells brought him in to start. He doesn't usually like young players at qb , but he knows that Henne is better than Beck already.

McCown will be the opening day starter. Parcells loves veteran QBs. But Henne looks like a lock to start at some point during the season. Too bad for Beck he won't get the oppty to play behind Jake | |
