Ok I have heard several times now that we are going to a spread offense and I have also heard several times that we arent so I was wondering if anyone knew anything about it b/c I would certainly love to see it but I just didnt think that phil would let it go down as long as he was the head guy but who knows.....he is dealing with a lot of pressure to win now.

I know that clawson has run the spread in d-2 and been very sucessful at it but can he do that against the big boys...I mean not only d-1 but the SEC speed? I sure hope so and I hope he can give a breath of life to an underachieving football program.

UT will be running a version of the west coast offense. Alot of 1 back sets and 3 wides, slants, 3 step drops, getting rid of the ball quickly.

The above respone is partially correct... The offense that Clawson runs though is really a hybrid of the west coast and the spread offenses.   The nice thing about it is there are so many offensive formations and variations it has a lot of creativity to it.   Some people will call it a spread because you will see 3, 4, and even 5  wide options with an empty back field or a 1 back set, but it also has the West Coast variations that are predicated on a lot of slant & short pass routes along with a 2 back set.   The thing that Clawson has done a great job of in the past is putting the ball in his playmakers hands.   He was instrumental in the development of Brian Westbrook as a multiple threat from the backfield (first player in NCAA History to have 1000 yds rushing and 1000 yds recieving in a single season).  Tennesse is blessed with a lot of athletes and it will be interesting to see how Clawson is able to be even more creative with these players.

Give it sometime and Tennessee should see a pretty exciting and fairly unpredictable offense on the field.   It will be exciting to watch a totally new system in place for 2008..  I would expect the normal bumps along the way but Clawson has proven himself as a offensive mind and a program developer so who know how good this offense can be.

Thanks guys...I got a little idea of it with the spring game but im sure he didnt show all his cards for sure but the main thing is....I dont think hes afraid to let loose and we have the perfect quarterback for that in crompton....the kid has an absolute CANNON for an arm and I love his heart on the field.

But will Phil give Clawson the go ahead to run the west coast offence, if it does have some hick-ups? How has it gone in practice so far? is it working so far? with the fewest sacks in 2007 (4) it sounds like they will have time to be able to use it. I personally would like to see them be able to run it with some success.I think it would open up our offence to be able to have a wide open offence with the run threat as well as a passsing game.

vol u me  Don't worry about your boys being able to pick up on the spread offense. Florida is coming to visit in week 3 and they'll give you some schooling on the subject.

What you need to worry about is can your defense cover Tim Tebow and company because they KNOW how it's done.

Come on Vols ! ! !  Where in the hell are y'all at??? I know on the GATOR boards someone comes in talking trash (even in fun) and they always get a quick answer back.

This new quarterback of yours what year is he in Sophomore, Jr. Sr. ??? I don't recognize his name at all. Maybe you've heard of our quarterback ??? Tim (superman) Tebow should really be able to show off his skills this year as a passer.

UFDON, dont come on here talking smack, I am the last person you want to get in an exchange with. If you are needing insight on our QB, his name is John Crompton, he is a junior and was rated one of the top 5 QB's when he came out of high school. Our defense will be alot better than last year, I wouldn't go chalking up a win in Knoxville, where we went undefeated @ home last year. Yeh, we played like S%^T on the road last year but we will be a better team next year. My question is this, where were you guys 12-15 yrs ago before you had ever won an SEC title??? I hope you enjoy your recent success because that is what it is recent. Florida will never have the same overall longevity of success as UT. We are the second winningest program in the history of the SEC, more bowl appearances, more bowl wins, more NATL titles, more SEC titles, more tradition and we own the overall head to head series against you guys. I cant wait for Rico McCoy to put Tebow on his backside. Oh yeh, as far as Tebow opening up his passing game. I wouldnt be expecting him to light it up against our secondary whicj will be tops in the conference if not the nation.

Nice.  It should be fun.  I'm going to judge according to who has the bast smack without bias, but I don't see any Yuck-eye coming in the top 5.  I going to submit some smack but judges aren't eligible to win.

vol u me  Thanks for the info on your QB Crompton I truly didn't know who was behind Ainge. For your sake I'm glad Crompton was rated in the top 5, because Ainge never really impressed me.
