I agree Rutgers should have agreed to play ND.  Like Jagfan says: it would benefit them greatly and be a huge stride for the Big East.  UConn has agreed to play ND with no home games, and so has USF (we don't even get a neutral site, all our games are up at ND).  It feels like we got the shaft, but at the same time you have to look at the state of each of these programs.  Each of them has a long way to go before they are regarded in the same sense as Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, etc.  Playing teams like these is the only way for Rutgers, UConn, and USF to get to this status and if you pull out a win, it'll make your program that much better and earn you that much more respect.  Rutgers made a huge mistake and hopefully they'll reconsider.

Also, I can't help but wonder if the stadiun capacity is really the reason ND doesn't want to play at Rutgers.  They wouldn't even agree to play in Raymond James which can seat 67,000.

Look its not a big deal. ND doesnt need to play Rutgers (Who is Rutgers). We were trying to give them a shot and they didnt take it. Rutgers would make more money playing at Giants stadium, its a Fact. The Athletic director even said it. They said No because he doesnt want to take a home game away from the fans. I respect that but it was still a bad call for Rutgers. Like I said I wish that this happen because I live in NJ and I could of went to the game. Also Conn has the same deal. They took it. Just wanted to point that out. Dont give me Rutgers is way better, Conn beat them 2 out of 4 years. Rutgers is better but both programs are going up.

Oh yea alot of people are saying Rutgers are on TV but you guys dont play on College Sat. Alot of your games were on Wed, Thur, or Friday night games. I think this would of helped Rutgers out if they played ND. Rutgers Fans look at it this way. If you win it would help recruiting. Why, because now maybe the kids that go to ND from NJ will say wow Rutgers is right where ND is maybe I will stay home. Thats why this is a big game for you guys. ND is one of the Top schools that take the talent away from you guys. Look I respect Rutgers and even like them as one of my teams because I am from NJ, Rutgers needed to take this game. They dropped the Ball.

The only way to determine whether each school did/did not make a bad move by failing to agree, simply look at the alternative.

ND - wanted to play at home for 3 and at the Meadowlands for 3.

---Because Rutgers did not want to play there, they chose Connecticut --> I think this is a step down.  Clearly money is not the main motivation for ND.  ND has been stealing all NJ catholic school athletes since forever and the decision not to come to will hurt their recruiting in NJ.

Rutgers - wanted to play at home for 3 and at ND for 3.  they did not want to play in the Meadowlands.

---Rutgers has yet to find a replacement so it is difficult to say this was a bad move thus far.  Clearly playing ND is likely a better alternate that Rutgers will find, but ND didn't want to play at our home field, which is the STANDARD for any home and home with non-conference teams.

In all, I think both teams have lost out, but in terms of who benefited more from moving on, I feel Rutgers got the better end of the "non-agreement".  When Rutgers plays ND's replacement, they will not get nearly as many NJ recruits on the opponents side as ND could.

Hahahahahahahah!  Purguy you kill me!  Notre Dame "was trying to give Rutgers a shot and they didn't take it."  Come on, be serious dude.  You really going to try to peddle the benificent big brother angle?  You are deluding yourself.  ND wanted to play Rutgers for one reason, the  NYC market.  Period.  Whether to play before NY-ND fans, to recruit NJ better, it was NOT to give poor struggling Rutgers a shot.  Come on it shows in the UConn deal.  Why else would you have convinced UConn to play its games at Foxboro OR the Meadowlands.  You don't need Foxboro, you get all the exposure you need in Boston from playing BC (home and away in their 43,000 stadium I might add).  ND wants to play NYC.  Let's be realistic here.

I think the big problem here is how the perception of these two teams has changed since the original deal was discussed.  ND was bowl bound every year.  Rutgers was a joke that was the doormat of the Big East, which had just been raided by the ACC.  Now ND's fallen on some hard times (I fully expect them to be back though) and Rutgers has played three straight bowls (yeah not big ones but bowls nonetheless) been ranked in the top 10 and (here's the biggest change) has been selling out for the past two years, with a 12,000 fan waiting list.  ND wanted at least 40,000 seats for their fans.  In 2005 this was no problem.  Now it is because you have 56,000 guaranteed Rutgers fans who must be accommodated.  Also add into the mix that RU just won the OK for stadium expansion against some contentious opposition.  There is no way RU could build an stadium expansion to 56,000 and then go down the road to play at the Meadowlands.

Here's my hope.  ND gets back on track, RU continues to improve and they play a 1-1-1 with neutral site in Philadelphia or Baltimore which helps not only ND's recruiting but RU's as well.  To me, that's a win, win.
