You know, this Canada bashing is getting ridiculous. I know I'm going to get painted as the bad guy for this, because how dare I defend my country, but here goes....
Fans of any team, remember, it's just a game, no need to make the insults "national" the Montreal Canadiens do not represent all of Canada any more than the Philadelphia Flyers represent all of the USA.
I understand that the idiots that are bashing Canada are not representative of the entire U.S. population. To those classy, intelligent fans, thanks for the debates/arguments that are posted here. A little rivalry never hurt anybody. To those that want to criticize my country (and have probably never been here) shut up, your opinion of Canada means absolutely nothing. If we didn't know any better, all you'd be doing is making "Americans" look bad which is horrible, because they deserve better.
If you want to get into a Canada vs. America fight, hockey is probably a bad forum for it. Canadian players do not stop being Canadian citizens because they play in the USA. So when you insult Canadians, you are also insulting 60% of your current Flyers roster. If your aim is only at French Canadians, then there are just as many of them on your squad as American players (3).
Booing the national anthem is classless, regardless of what side of the border it happens on (and it DOES happen on both sides). Just because some idiots do it, realize there are just as many people in that crowd that are offended by the idiots doing the booing. In fact, the people that boo the anthems probably don't realize how they might be hurting their own team. Do you think that Higgins, Komisarek, Smolinski, and Boullion feel motivated to perform for the Habs when the crowd boos their home country? In fact, I think that's the reason why San Jose lost to Edmonton 2 years ago, because Thornton was invisible that series.
Anyways....Let's talk HOCKEY!

Loyal : I'm an American and I dislike the idea of booing of a National Anthem. Morons are everywhere. Philly has a large share, maybe larger than most. And for those who think I don't know, you're wrong. I work near Philly and have for the last 24 years. Unfortunately, Philly has an inferiority complex. They think everyone is against them. Their sports teams haven't done dick for years and they hate almost everybody because of it. I'm a Canadiens fan and have been since the 70's. I actually like this Flyers team. Young, smart and gritty. The only thing that ruins it are their fans. Most are arrogant when you disagree with them. They hate the newer style of hockey. They hate players like Crosby and Ovechkin. Most haven't left the 70's. I really doubt the Canadiens are shaking in their booties now that they're in Philly. Should be a good game tonight. Go Montreal !!!!!!

Yep, your team that has 15 Canadian players on it beat our team with 15 Canadian players on it.
Way to stick it to Canada.

I am not proud of the Flyers fans booing the Canadien national anthem. It was wrong and the few that did were idiots.
However, I'm not sure they would have done it if the Canadiens fans didn't boo the US national anthem from earlier in the series. But regardless, that doesn't make it anywhere close to justifying it.
What can you say? Both sides have a few idiots that make the entire fanbase or city look bad. It happens everywhere.
Yo, Monte!!!!

Let's not even get started on the whole "bashing Philadelphia" thing. It's been SO OVERBLOWN and is such nonsense. Sorry 2007monte, I am going to have to say you DON'T know what you are talking about. I could care less if you "work near Philly" or not. You say that "Most Flyers fans are "arrogant when you disagree with them", that is just a completely ridiculous statement to make. I would say most Rangers fans are arrogant when you disagree with them, in fact I would say your previous post was EXTREMELY ARROGANT. As for your other ludicrous statement, Flyers fans do NOT hate players like Crosby and Ovechkin, they only hate them when they play in their building. Flyers fans "HATED" Gretzky when he played against the Flyers too (the Oilers beat us for 2 cups in the '80s) However if Gretzky were introduced as part of some ceremony at center ice he would probably get a 10 minute standing ovation at the Wachovia Center. Flyers fans are not "Stuck in the '70's" for someone that has worked "NEAR" Philadelphia for 24 years you don't know much about Flyers fans.

I think the whole booing of national anthems thing is a little overblown. Every Canadiens fan on earth can boo our national anthem prior to game 5. You can boo it all you want next week too when you are watching the Flyers play the Penguins. I would never boo another nation's national anthem, not that I will have to worry about hearing the Canadian national anthem again after game 5. So boo away.

as far as the country bashing goes . . . i was born and raised in a free country and i will do as i please. i attended Game 5. . . and i must say the Canadiens fans that were there are cowards and classless. if you would have witnessed thier behavior you would understand. so stop with whole classless thing already. you Canadiens fans just need a reason to whine since your team is on the verge of elimination. after the way i seen your fellow countrymen act during the national anthem, i will never honor the Canadian anthem again. call me what ever it is that you please, because i really don't give a hoot. and as far as monte goes. . . GET THE PHUCK OUT OF PHILLY THAN. because we don't want you or need. . . . you CLOWN!!!! people that are not Philadelphia Phans just want to be one really bad. and we don't except frauds. LETS GO Flyers. . . . . . . . . . .

You're certainly entitled to your opinion Nick57.
But if that is your opinion, you are the last person to have any right to complain when fans on the other side figure out a way to dishonour your country and/or team even worse.
That's why it's important for the clear minded fans on both sides of the border to step up and restore some honour to the sport of hockey for the good of the game.
