Keep in mind that he would be back-up. Not a full time RB. He still has power. If needed he still could be swapped with Sproles or maybe even a Germane Race (if he makes it).

Again Cheap!

He does not have power. He doesn't have anything left.

This guy is supposed to replace Michael Turner, right? Turner the Burner ran like he had a pack of rabid dogs nipping at his heels. Shaun Alexander runs like he might, or might not, be late for lunch.

And I'm sorry, injuries are not an excuse. The broken bone in his foot should have been healed by last year. My wife had a very similar injury in about the same time fram (about 3 years ago). She still has pain in her foot because it didn't heal quite right. So basically Alexander either should have been fully healed, or the foot is never going to be right again. If he couldn't run with pain last year, he's not going to be able to do it this year. Not to mention LaDanian Tomlinson has run with a shoulder injury, and been effective, that was at least as bad if not worse than Alexanders wrist inury.

The guy brings nothing to the table. He would not improve the team at all.

Stan, are you comparing your wifes injury to that of a professional athlete?? No disrespect but thats comical....

Turner had a great offensive line in front of him....you might notice that once the Seahawks line was depleted and his lead blocker Mack Strong was injured week 5, and forced to retire, Shaun-A's numbers dropped off ...correlation??  If you followed theSeahawks I think you may have noticed a change in the offensive game plan once Strong went down.Far less carries for Shaun-A and much more of airing it out. In 3 of the first 4 games of the season he carried the ball 20+ ....In the remaining nine games he played after Mack went down he hit 20+ only once...correlation?? In the first 4 he avgeraged 88 yards per..Post Mack Strong.. just 37 yards per....in fact he rushed for more yards combined in the first four games than the nine total games after.I know all this wont change your mind but its something to think about.

Oh and I almost forgot....one has to throw out the 2006 season. He was put on the Madden cover for christs sake.We all know how that goes  :)

bhes,

They both had a cracked bone in the middle of their foot. The only thing I was really comparing was the healing time for that kind of injury, which is pretty darn long. I don't really see how that's comical. In fact, I think my wife's injury was worse. Her bone was fully broken and then misdiagnosed, so it healed slightly out of position which is why she still has pain. I think it was what they cal a lisfranc. Alexander had a "hairline" fracture the year before, so he should have been good to go last year.

Anyway I have no doubt that the offensive line and fullback issues contributed to his ineffectiveness. My point is the guy showed no burst, he showed no elusiveness and he showed no desire to break tackles at all. Any decent back could run through the huge holes he was given with the line he had the year before, if they had the burst and desire to get through the holes before they close. That IMO is what Alexander has lost and it has nothing to do with his fullback or offensive line.

He's an average back at best now, and I repeat we can find a younger, fresher, cheaper one of those in the draft.

Go Chargers!

Shaun Alexander wants to be a Starter. He doesnt want to be a back up. I see ANOTHER team, AFTER the draft giving him an opportunity to compete for the starter spot.

I don't know if another team would want him to start. Like everyone has pointed out, his stats for the last 2 years are bad due to injury. He may still be hurt, he's 30.

He may have no choice but to play back up. So why not back up the Greatest Running back in the NFL?

Sounds like a sweet job. Watch a great team. The Best RB. Might even get another ring. He's still somewhat close to Seattle where his family lives.

It could work. Build the team for a 1 year run like the Patriots did signing all the Vets.

Gotta take some chances.

What I said is exactly what AJ would say if someone came to him saying we should pick up Shaun Alexander.

I think that Jacob Hester was an awesome choice for a backup RB/FB.  He will want to earn his spot on the team, prove himself to the rest of the NFL and get a bigger and better contract.  Shaun Alexander already has all of that.  He wont even try to compete and wont want to be a second string anyway.....hes too selfish.

Two words: JIM EDMONDS!! The Padres gambled on a has been with injury issues and it totally blew up in their face. They are out Millions and looked very foolish...back in the day Shaun Alexander was the man! Not any more. He is too injury-prone and does not seem to have the heart and drive that LT has. It would be a huge mistake. Focus on the good back-up running backs we already have. Go Chargers!!
