This was an amazing pick by TT after a questionable one with the first pick.
The trade rounds out Corey Williams for Brian Brohm... I think we won that one, hopefully he'll push A-Rod for the job and it'll bring out the best in both of them.
This pick greatly increases the likelyhood of the Pack having a great franchise QB to replace Favre. We have Rodgers, who has had several years to develop behind Favre, and now Brohm, who only dropped in our laps due to the Cardinal's defense being so poor this year. The competition between two of them will hopefully push atleast one of them to be a great probowl player.
Rodgers is injury prone in my opinion, I think Rodgers will do okay in the first couple of games, get injured, and Brohm will have some game time to show us what he's got. I don't have much faith in Rodgers, I am hoping Brohm beats him out early.
If Rodgers can't handle a training camp competition, do you want him calling the signals on Sundays?
Me neither.
And from everything I have seen, Rodgers can handle the competition. I think this is our version of Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn with the Browns. You can NEVER have too many options at QB.
Congrts Ted T, this could have been a draft where we made an immediate (reach) at one position, but it is in our best interest to trade down and get the best value. Once again Ted T has shown he doesn't pick based on ESPN Hype. I'm sure our grade will be around a C at best (check in in 2-3 years), but Ted has shown he could care less what ESPN (Mel Kiper and Co.) thinks and puts us in the best position to win.
Every team needs depth at every pos. So drafting a QB, although great for ESPN to debate its signifigance, is best for the Green Bay Packers. No matter what, we should keep drafting the best player available, not a position "need" because those picks end up bad for the organization.
amen. Brohm was an absolute steal at 56. I hope that he can push Rodgers to be a pro bowl player, or if not then maybe he can hijack our starting qb slot. I like what i see of Rodgers, and I think he could potentially be great, but there is no reason to pass up the opportunity of great talent when it falls into our laps at number 56. Great selection.
I am all for drafting the best player available, and the more i think about it, the more i like the brohm pick. However, taking the best available player only works in certain scenarios. I do have a problem with selecting Flynn in the 7th round along w/ another WR in the 7th. The WR may be able to help us but Flynn, if he makes the team, will be lost somewhere deep on the depth chart. I like the take the best available player for the most part, but taking a QB after we already have 2 other QBs doesn't make sense.
If we start the season w/ Rodgers, Brohm, and Flynn, it just doesn't make sense to me. We would have 3 QBs who combined have 3 yrs of experience (Rodgers) and a career starts of 0 between the three of them.
The only way I can see taking Flynn is if we plan on trading either Brohm or Rodgers in the next year or so...
C'mon everyone, you have to think like TT here, then it will make complete sense. First he picks up Brohm, given a little time under AR to pick up the offense and he will be a legitimate threat to start in the NFL. So then the determining factor is the production of AR, if it is poor we have Brohm, if it is average then we use Brohm to hedge against AR contract demands, if outstanding then we keep AR and shop Brohm. Its all about the money guys. In the mean time we have been bringing Flynn along so he can be our backup QB.
