KGB won't play LB... DeMarcus Ware plays in the 3-4 scheme. We plays the 4-3 scheme. KGB couldn't cover a TE or a RB for that matter. Thats what LB's do in 4-3. We drafted Thompson who might end up being a good OLB. I also was hoping they would draft the kid from Army late in the draft, he could have been converted into a LB and would have made a great ST player. The Bears did it w/ Urlacher so I think we could do it with the kid from Army. I think our D-line will be solid this year. A solid rotation on the inside on first and second down, and on third down bring in KGB, slide Jenkins inside to the 3 tech, and have Collin Cole or Mike Montgomery play the other DT. I think our DL is going to stay fresh and will be awesome on third down.

dogmeatib,
I disagree with the argument that we need a safety. When you look at the TEs that the Packers played, it isn't that surprising that they had difficulties.
I think you are wrong on this one. The Packers DO need a safety, or at least one that is better in pass coverage.
Answer this question: if the Packers two CBs are amongst the league's best (and I think they are), why did Green Bay rank 27th (tied with St. Louis) in yards allowed per reception - 12.1 yards per catch? This is a season after ranking 32nd in the same category in 2006 - 12.5 . Could that be because the Packers are weak at safety?
I think the answer is yes. Improved play in that area would likely make the Pack a top 5 defense instead of just out of the top 10.

I'd say we ranked 12.1 yards per catch because we held team to 3rd downs a lot, in which case, teams had to convert about 7 to 10 yards on average.

BTW,
I'm just glad it appears that we didn't draft based on potential. For all the times I heard that Ahmad Carroll was going to be great...
Early picks except Lee put up numbers in college football. Refreshing!
Although I will be the first to say, I thought Antuan Edwards was going to be a star, and Mike McKenzie was overrated. That's why this is so fun!

Yards per Reception is probably an inflated statistic. The Bump and Run system we run is going to give up some big plays. Most of the time it results in incompletion's though. Yards per Pass Attempt is probably the most accurate statistic to grade a defense on. The Pack D ranked second in Completion % given up last year. They were in the top half of yards per game given up last year and a lot of that yardage was given up when teams were behind and were forced into throwing against us.
Also you have to look at the secondary as a whole. First off, Jarret Bush is probably the worst nickel back in the entire NFL. He cant cover to save his life. He is a special team player at best. A lot of those YPR were given up by him. I'm not sure if Patrick Lee is the answer to this problem but I am almost positive he is an improvement over Bush.
Most of the time Poppinga was forced into covering the opposing TE and his cover skills is where he lacks. I think we drafted Jeremy Thompson to possibly replace Poppinga and cover the opposing TE.
So I think our Safties are perfectly fine the way they are. Bigby came on big last year and I think he could be a Bob Sanders type player, Collins has talent and if he doesn't work our TT is high on Aaron Rouse. Either way I believe our Safety situation is fine.

Another draft and another "What the @#$% ?!" from Packer followers everywhere on TTs draft. I understand the man likes to trade down for more picks but lets look at this for a second. He trades down a bunch of times to get extra picks but still ends up with no extra prospects - 7 rounds we get 7 players total. He wastes a 7 round pick on WR Swain because there is no room for him on the roster with 9 WR already here. But the thing that busts my chops is he trades down a bunch but then has to use those extra picks to trade back up again to get a guy he likes which he could have had all along if he had been patient. The Jets screwed us over by trading with GB into the first round to get Keller. We go back and take Jordy Nelson(??), Brohm (this pick could make the entire draft I will give him that) and Patrick Lee(??). Lee had a 3-4th round grade from most scouts. Some had him barely draftable. The first day should have gone like this: Take CB Brandon Flowers at 30, Brohm right were they did take him, and Limas Sweed with the last 2nd rounder (or Jordy Nelson if TT has a love affair with this guy). I think the fourth rounder they got from the Jets in this trade ended up being traded to Minnesota for seventh rounders or to move up I forget which. TT usually ends up with one high quality guy per draft then the rest is a waste - Jennings was a quality guy but I dont remember who else from that draft. Harrell will be the quality guy from last year but everyone else is an afterthought. TT needs to work the draft better by understanding the meaning of "value pick" - too many reaches and pointless going up / down the draft board for my money.

I'm not going to second guess TT. This draft should be greded three years from now, not today. Unless I see a pick that totally makes me scratch my head, I'm trusting in the scouts, coaches, and management to make good decisions.
So far, they've earned that benefit of the doubt.
They have a great deal of respect from the rest of the league in this regard.
So analyze and critique if you want, but don't give a final grade on this draft until 2011.

It's a given the Packers will be running the 5 WR set from time to time. Having a guy like Jordy Nelson in the mix is a big plus. He catches everything thrown his way. He's big enough to win most of the jump ball battles with CBs. He gets separation early, and while he is not a pure burner, he has the speed to get downfield quickly for the long ball. If he starts out as a possession receiver on short-mid routes (esp. 3rd downs), and makes his catches, I will be very happy. He can move on to more varied assignments over time. Flowers might have been a better pick given the Packers' needs, and I would have been satisfied if they had kept their first round pick. Given that WRs Sweed and Manningham were available so late, the Nelson pick loses a bit on the value scale.
Nobody is arguing the Brohm pick. He is a great insurance policy at the most important position.
A stud safety would have been a good need-based pick. Given they are so far under the salary cap, are there any top safeties available in free agency or via trade?

I couldn't disagree with you more colwolverine. I think we had a great draft and addressed all of our needs. Justin King is a decent corner but he wouldn't have fitted in to our system.
Finley, Brohm, Sitton, Lee, and Flynn were all great picks in my mind. We did address the linebacker spot by getting the end form Wake Forest. TT even traded up to get him so I think they saw somethig in him that was too good to pass up.
