First off, I don't hate T-Jack. Furthermore, Booty will be a quality backup for years to come. His arm isn't nearly as strong as Jackson's, but any QB coming out of Southern Cal is going to be pretty polished. Nice pick.

This was a need pick...and recent USC quarterbacks seem to have a decent track record, so there's no reason to believe John David Booty won't have success. Also, his last name is Booty...his name always draws the eight year old out of me and makes me chuckle. In all seriousness though...this gives us another option down the road if T-Jack doesn't pan out. I, however, am very confident in Tarvaris (unlike a lot of haters, particulary those annoying Packer fans). I believe Tarvaris did nothing but improve last year and he will be playing at a higher level overall than he did last year. So as another poster said, Booty will be a solid backup for Jackson in a few years.

I can't see Booty being a starter, but neither is Tavaris. Vikes will need to win alot of games on the ground still even with overpaid Berrian...

In a backup role this is a good pick. Booty can push TJack without putting too much pressure on him. Face it, Booty just doesn't have the same skills. Plus, JDB should be serviceable if anything were to happen to Jackson.
I don't think Gus is going to look as good without Randy Mo to throw to.

Excelent pick for the Vikes. I am surprised that Booty was still there in the 5th. He will be a great back up for TJ and maybe challenge him for the starting spot over the next few years. I like this pick due to the fact it gives us a solid back up and TJ needs to step up his game. No offense my fellow Viking fans but we must improve on the QB position. I am not sure I like our #2 pick. I thought Limas Sweed would have fit well but that is just my opinion. I do like our free agent moves as well as the big trade for Allen and what we have done so far in the draft. We should be a strong contender this year as we are addressing needs. Much better than I thought we would.

I like the pick a lot. It's certainly an insurance pick, but I wish people would get off T-Jack's nuts. Seriously the guy is 8-4 as a starter and doing nothing but get better. He 'MAY' not work out, but don't you think he needs to start losing before he gets the boot (no pun intended).

I liked the pick, you guys are right that he will be a good back-up for years to come. I also find it funny that we traded with the Packers of all teams to get him. Kinda surprising that in the 2nd we let brohm fall to the packs and now we trade with em so we can get our QB. But what I liked more than the pick was when chilly was on ESPN afterwards. The ending was great, instead of saying how good we will be he said that we will all find out where the Vikings are in week 1 against the packers. That is right, everyone will find out where we are at week 1 and I can't wait to see it because we wont be losing 34-0 against them this time around.

It's a great pick for where they got him. I envisioned a team snatching him up in the late 3rd to early 4th. Maybe the whiners will shut the h3ll up now. Even if he never plays a down for the Vikes that would make this a great pick.

Not a Vikes fan (may become one) but am a huge SC fan. This guy is a great pick for you. He is a good QB but a better football guy. You will love him, his teammates will love him. Good luck to the Vikes and JDB. Also, a big fight on to BKU.

I was pretty bummed when we lost both 3rd round pick because I thought that is when we had the chance to get Booty, and then we traded the 4th to move up in the 2nd. I was hoping for Brohm there, but I am happy we got a stud safety that will contribute very soon. I am really excited that they were able pick him up in the 5th though. He doesn't have the big arm, but he played in a pro style system in a nice environment at Southern California. I really think he has the ability to challenge Jackson. Childress just said he liked this guy because he was able to make the throws they have in their system. I think they got a steal in the 5th round.
